In-game screenshots
Can someone, anyone please post an in-game screenshot. I play out the majority of all my Sim games. I'm trying to get a feel for the ability to follow the puck on the screen in conjunction with the PBP. From what I read, somewhere on this forum, this is not one of the strengths of the game. I'm all about the immersion factor. I purchased Action PC Hockey and there are no 2D graphics. Following the puck on the screen is worthless. there needs to be some connection between the PBP and what you see on the screen in order for the game to have a flow. I played maybe three games before shelving it. I know I can download the Beta, but I would rather not have to do that if I don't have to.

I posted a bunch of screenshots following a similar request here: How is FHM compared to EHM 07? [Screenshots Inside] ? EHM The Blue Line
If you take a look at the first 2 screenshots you'll see the match screen. However, as I mentioned in that link, the GUI is scheduled to undergo improvement and redesign. The match screen is something that has been confirmed by the devs as being one screen in particular that will undergo a redesign.

Arch, thanks. 1.So the PBP actually has phrases that say "middle distance, short distance, and wide out" for shots????? No, "from the blue line" from the slot" from the left face off circle" "from in front of the crease" ????? and the on-ice graphics are represented by flags with player numbers in no particular location???? If this is the case, this is a game for simmers only. For those of us who play out our games this is a deal breaker. at least it is for me.

If watching little dots moving around the ice is more your thing, I suggest checking out EHM (Eastside Hockey Manager) and play that instead. I am sure that they will be adding things to the game to make the "in game" part of the game be more than it is right now but as of now, I don't think that this has been discussed at length or anything so it's far back on the burner for now |

As I mentioned in my previous post, the match screen is something that has been confirmed by the devs as being one screen in particular that will undergo a redesign. So don't take too much away from it right now. The reason for there being no 2D has been mentioned before, but basically it is because it would take away too much man-power to develop. EHM had the benefit of expertise and source code from the Championship Manager 2D engine. OOTP don't have any stock code for any comparable 2D engine and would have to write it from scratch. I imagine there are additional coding challenges such as developing the sim engine to the point where it can simulate every second of play and the position of the puck and all players to a high degree of accuracy. You might remember that EHM 2005 just showed 2d snapshots of the players' positions on the ice (as opposed to the fluid 2d simulation in EHM 2007) - this was because the game's engine couldn't simulate every second of the game yet - and that was after nearly 3 year's development and the benefit of the CM engine. So it's really no small task.
