Changing minor league affiliations

Forgive me if this is well-known, but I couldn't find the answer and it's been several years since I played an OOTP game. If I change the affiliation of minor league teams, what happens to the players? Are they essentially traded for free to the new major league club?

For example, let's say I want to swap the Vegas 51s (Mets) with the Rochester Red Wings (Twins), thereby putting the Mets AAA team back on the east coast and the Twins AAA team in the west. When I set the affiliation of the 51s to the Twins, what happens to the players? Are they suddenly "owned" by the Twins? Do I need to clear the roster of the team prior to changing affiliation? Or does the game know that I'm doing this and have a mechanism for making the swap?

Thanks

Yes. The players stay on the roster, and thus become the property of the new team.

This is not ideal, so to avoid this, when you have that team(s) you want to change affiliation, dump the rosters to somewhere else, move all the players to Single A or the DFA list or something, but whatever you do, make sure the rosters are completely empty.

As for coaches and the like...I dunno, I guess you can manually switch them over in the editor if you really want, I actually never cared about that too much and just let the go with the team.

Just change the name of the team and the city it plays in, and keep the affiliation. There is no need to "move" a team. You can also give a team a new stadium, if you are doing things at that level of detail. Plus uniforms, etc.

That's the solution I go with as well. Rename the teams. I see the team as the affiliated team, rather than a franchise itself, which made this solution come to mind easily. The AAA team is not the Sacramento River Cats, it's the AAA affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, which just happens to be called Sacramento River Cats right now. Because of the way OOTP works, it is easier to think of them that way and keep yourself out of trouble.
