Help! Won the 2nd Wild Card in a one game playoff but not in the playoffs???

I won the second wild card in a one game playoff - In the wild card standings, it shows my team as winning the second wild card, but the playoff tree and matchups has the team that I beat in the playoff?

Is it possible from commissioner mode to override and put myself in the playoffs as I should be?

I'm in the middle of a franchise makeover in my 41st season and worked hard to make the playoffs this season, finishing 15 games better than the preseason prediction, and would hate to see it go for naught.

Thanks.

While I don't have any immediate answers, can you explain how Arizona played 164 games? I get how you played 163, as I'm guessing you beat Atlanta in a 1-game playoff to "win" the 2nd Wildcard. But Arizona played 164 games, and that I can't explain.

And I bet the two are related. The game is probably functionally treating you as the wildcard in one screen because of win %, but the playoff trigger must be coming from somewhere else and I bet it has to do with 164 games.

We'd need to see the standings after all clubs had played 162 games to be sure, but my guess would be there was a four-way tie for the two wild card spots (that certainly seems a distinct possibility given the club records we can see in the screenshot). OOTP's tie-breaking routines may not up to that task I'm afraid.

jldante56, can you look at your scores and schedules page and give us the match-ups and scores for the last few days of your season?

Three teams tied at 85-77. Arizona played Atl and won, then played Washington and lost. That accounts for the extra games. Why Arizona goes on is a mystery to me.

If we could see the full standings after 162 games we could at least determine what OOTP should have done (not that that helps jldante56).

If I remember correctly, at one time (some versions ago) OOTP used to settle 3 way ties alphabetically. Not sure if that's still the case though, but seems to fit the mold here.

Agree with LGO, would like to see a picture of standings after game 162.

For the OP, find out what date that was (game 162), go to league standings, select that date from the drop down and do a screen capture if you can.

My fault - Should have given more info. You are exactly right - Regular season ended in a 3 way tie between myself (Washington), Arizona and Atlanta. Arizona beats Atlanta in a one game playoff and then loses to me.

I haven't moved forward yet. . .so the question I have is. . .is there any way from commissioner mode to change the playoff tree before I advance and put myself in instead of Arizona?

You can edit the playoff schedule. I think.

Before you do what RichW said, can you please FTP your league files to us? The reason I ask is this really sounds like a bug - and if it is - Markus needs to check this out.

Here's how to upload your files to us: How to FTP files to OOTP Developments - Kayako eSupport Help Desk Software

The only files we need a re the .dat files - no folders needed. Also, please PM me the name of the uploaded file.

Thanks!

I may have spoken in haste. You can edit the schedule but I don't know for sure if you can substitute teams.

Three way ties have been bugged to death ever since OOTP 2007. I've actually seen the tiebreaking algorithm schedule a game between a 90-73 team and the 90-74 team they just beat.

I had it happen to me twice .... however in my game it did a one game playoff for the two teams for the right to be the 2nd wild card team. Then it would move on as normal. At first I thought the it would do a tiebreaker by how they played against eachother or coin flip. I am glad it just did a head to head one game tie in game.
