Sox Catchers Slugging it out
Boston's 2 Catchers are slugging the ball around attempting to wrestle Playing time from each other, Neither the 31 year old Ivy Wingo or 23 year old Johnny Gooch are happy splitting time and they are impressive offensively as they both try to prove it's their job!

Smith Goes 5-5
Wednesday, July 20th, 1921
Who needs batting practice? Earl S Smith of Philadelphia apparently doesn't as he battered Chicago with a 5-hit outburst in today's game to lead his club to a 13-9 win.

He told the press after the game, "And I didn't even take BP today. I think I have been taking too many swings before game and decided to take a day off. Wow, this was really something... a 5 for 5 day... will my name be in the record books now?"

Earl S Smith doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Phil Douglas in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Phil Douglas in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

This year Smith has socked 134 hits in 344 at-bats for a .390 average with 11 home runs. He is getting on base at a .442 pace and his totals also include 64 RBIs and 66 runs scored.
5-Hit Blitz by Pittsburgh's Myatt
Wednesday, July 20th, 1921
Today the Braves downed the Pirates 8-7, but Glenn Myatt did his best to avoid that outcome as he lashed hits all over Braves Field in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with 5 hits in 5 at-bats.

"I don't remember a better day batting, but it sure is disappointing to lose the game," the Pittsburgh catcher said to BNN reporters in the postgame interview. "A win would have made the day much sweeter."

Asked if he had a hitting philosophy, Myatt said, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of good pitches to hit today and I didn't miss any of them."

Glenn Myatt singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.

This year Myatt is hitting at a .281 pace with no home runs and 20 RBIs. He has played in 76 games and scored 34 times.
5-5 Game for Wheat
Wednesday, July 20th, 1921
33-year-old Brooklyn left fielder Zack Wheat had a big day with the bat at Ebbets Field today against the St. Louis Cardinals. He went 5-for-5 and led the Robins to a 10-2 triumph over them.

Zack Wheat singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th.

This season Wheat is batting .382 with 29 RBIs, 36 runs scored and no home runs.
