Who gets Player of the game in Team No-hitter
Running a theme in 10 inning oddities of late (Marcus needs to do something about that...is happening way too often).
In this game, Jim D Weaver has a no hitter in the 7th inning when he is removed due to injury. Weaver's Rockies cannot score in 9 innings of effort, but the bull pen continues the no hit bid and the Rocks score 4 runs in the 10th as George Brett drives in what would be scored as the GWRBI, if they were still scored, with a two out single. Joe Ferguson follows Brett with a three run HR. Steve Burke tosses his second no-hit inning in relief to get the W and complete the 10 inning team no hitter. Jacksonville starter David Pauley threw 8 innings of 4 hit shutout ball in a tough ND. Who gets the Player of the Game Award? |

We have a (ONE) winner!
This is the first poll I have posted on the forum. I do not know how to close it before the time frame of 5 days I entered when I made the OP. Anyway, with 14 votes in, 11 gave the nod to Weaver, one to Burke, one to Brett and one to Pauley.
I suspect the Pauley voter may have been one of the many Blue Jay faithful that are active here. In any case, the program did give the Player of the Game to Pauley, even though his game score was lower than Weaver's. Whatever logic is involved in issuing POG honors, it is not simply a game score comparison when the candidates are both pitchers. Thanks for the votes, everyone. I agreed with the majority and thought Weaver should/would have received POG. |

surprised furgeson didnt get the nod with his 3 run homerun to finally seal the game ???? wonders about defense too .... however when you have more than one pitcher as a team no hitter I would give the nod to the staff

Perfect 10?
Steve Burke, the winning pitcher in the 10 inning no hitter, now has 10 saves on the year to go along with a 10.00 ERA.
You can't make this stuff up. |
