The curse of Chris Getz
I’m new to OOTP and baseball sims. I’m playing a season with the 2013 Royals before starting a long-planned historical sim. I want the challenge of addressing injuries but what’s happened the last few days seems ridiculous. I don’t think it’s a flaw in the game (I have the injury frequency set to Normal/OOTP Classic). I think it is the curse of Chris Getz.
Most Royals fans disagreed with Manager Ned Yost’s decision to make Chris Getz Kansas City’s everyday second baseman and send Johnny Giavotella back to Omaha. Regardless, I used the Opening Day lineups in my league and, like Ned Yost, I planned to frequently start Elliot Johnson. The unexpected began when Getz started the season hot by batting .329 in April with a team-leading .395 OBP in the first month. He slowed down in May, went to the bench, and had no hits in limited appearances in June. I demoted Getz and brought up Giavotella effective July 5. Giavotella sustained an injury when he collided with a runner during the first half inning of his first Major League game of the year. The delayed diagnosis—a separated shoulder—came four days later. Giavotella will be out for four weeks. Johnson started at second the next day, July 6, and sustained an injury when he collided with a runner during the fourth inning. Johnson tore a back muscle and will miss the rest of the season. I recalled Getz from Omaha on July 7 and gave him the start for the next three games. The same day, after receiving Johnson’s diagnosis, I promoted 2B/SS Christian Colon. I received Giavotella’s diagnosis on July 9. That night, SS Alcides Escobar broke his kneecap while running the bases, ending his season, and forced Colon into the lineup. On July 10, I placed Escobar on the DL and traded a top pitching prospect for Cardinals 2B Matt Carpenter. Carpenter and Colon started the next three games with Getz on the bench. Two days later, Carpenter hurt himself running the bases. The diagnoses of plantar fasciitis knocked him out of the lineup for four weeks. So, since I demoted Getz, I’ve lost three starting 2B and a SS to injuries. The Royals limped (literally) into the All-Star break 47-47 and 3.5 games behind the Tigers. The worst damage is to the confidence of the GM. I went on tilt (a poker term) and traded Ryan Verdugo, another top pitching prospect, for Seattle SS Brendan Ryan. I also recalled SS Irving Falu from Omaha. I quickly regretted the Ryan deal and closed OOTP before the curse of Chris Getz claimed another victim. I’m unsure what I’ll do for a middle infield after the break. Ryan and Getz are my probable starters. I hope to keep Falu, who will also provide depth in right field, in Kansas City and send Colon back to Omaha before he gets hurt. I get Giavotella back in three weeks and Carpenter in four. I’ll try to deal Getz, Giavotella, or Carpenter before the deadline.

Start Getz. This is obviously what the game wants you to do.

Do you have story lines turned on? Maybe this will end with a news story about a cousin of Getz being caught sneaking in the the park before a game Getz is not starting and throwing marbles around the middle infield.

The game would crash and OOTP would self-uninstall.

Give him back to the Sox. I wouldnt mind seeing him play 2B again, considering of the crap that has come after him.

Gordon Beckham calls Chris Getz gay | HardballTalk
Gordon Beckham calls Chris Getz "gay". Gordon Beckham flops from top prospect to consistent underperformer. Coincidence? More like, CHRIS GETZ CURSE. He WILL play as a perfectly mediocre 2b in the major leagues and there's nothing anyone can do to stop him. Last edited by BeancheBlanco; 05-16-2013 at 10:58 PM. |

I traded Bubba Starling for Danny Espinoza. Proceeded to get rid of Tejada and have Falu as my 3rd guy behind Getz and Johnson.
Production wise, Getz started off SUPER strong in my game. Then he crashed harder than a rock airplane. Before I picked up Espinoza, Escobar got hurt. So my infield was Falu and Getz. Made the trade and never looked back. Espinoza hit a 2 RBI triple in his first game... Now in 156 ABs he's .308/.397/.551 8 2B, 6 3B, 6 HR, and 32 RBIs. ...Now I wonder if Getz has cursed my pitching staff... |

Total disappointment in that guy. And to keep hearing Hawk Harrelson say 'just wait till Gordon gets back, and this team will be a real threat." Not sure what kind of threat he means, a threat to my baseball sensibilities maybe. Beckham and Harrelson can go away forever. I did not like the trade back when it happened. Especially considering what we got, and the contract that gave that bum. Somehow a moron was allowed to run the Toronto Blue Jays and we were able to dump Tehan and his entire contract on them. Chris Getz is on that same level of Sox as Ross Gload. Or Tony Graffanino. Loved those guys.
