Playing with Historical Transactions – Interesting Situation, possible bug

In scanning the imported Historical Transactions list for the 1970 season, I noticed that Dick Allen was traded from the Cardinals to the Dodgers on October 5th of that year - In other words, during the playoffs. Neither the Cards or Dodgers appeared in the playoffs IRL that year, but it got me wondering: Would OOTP move a player from one playoff team to another playoff team in the middle of the playoffs?

So I setup a test. In an effort to make sure both LA and STL won their respective division, I bumped up the ratings on the Dodgers’ players and I stacked STL with several stars from other teams… I then verified that Allen was on STL’s playoff roster (he was), etc., as of the beginning of the playoffs, and then auto-simmed the first few days of the playoffs, to October 6th, and then to the end of the playoffs. Long story short…

On the day after the trade…
  • the Allen transaction was listed as ‘executed successfully’
  • via player search, Allen listed as being on the Dodgers, not the Cards
  • Allen is included, however, on STL’s playoff roster, and is available to put into the lineup in playoff games
  • Allen does not appear on any LA roster
  • When inserted into a playoff game, unlike his Cardinal teammates, Allen mug appears on the field wearing a Dodgers cap
Allen ended up appearing in three of the four playoff games for STL, going 0-for-5… After the conclusion of the playoffs…
  • In looking at Reports > Player Batting Stats, with Split = Playoffs, Allen appeared on both LA's and STL's reports, with his full playoff stats (3 games, 0-for-5, etc...)
  • In viewing Allen’s player record and looking at Batting Stats, with Splits = Postseason, it appears as though he played the first game – prior to the date of the trade (no at bats) - with STL, and then played two games – after the trade - with the Dodgers (going 0-for-5), when in reality all three games and all five at-bats came with the Cards.
Clearly, it’s a strange situation and one that would be difficult for the game to handle properly when using historical transactions. It looks like the game handles the roster portion correctly: It keeps the roster intact for the playoffs despite the trade. Listing Allen as being on the Dodgers immediately after the trade is technically correct, and there doesn’t seem to be a downside to that (other than the cap) given that the playoff rosters are correct. But the stats were clearly off. Is this something that should be reported as a bug?
