Temporary "set lineups"?

As a GM, I've left the game managerial duties to my team's field manager. I enjoy the strategic part of the game a little more than the daily operations on the diamond. But something troubles me. When leaving the "set lineups" up to my field manager, Eric Wedge, on several occasions, he sets his lineup card in a way I'd like to change.

So my question: Is there a way to temporarily "force" Wedge to set his lineup to feature a particular player or platoon assignment?

Here's the reason: There are some players that I want to get more playing time, leaving a couple of veterans on the bench more often. The idea is to start the transfer from these veterans over to younger players, but to do so, I need the young guys, still in the minors, to get more playing time.

Similarly, at the Major League Level, I'd like to re-focus setting lineups so that a more gradual bell curve of OPS is used, rather than the more traditional lineup roles.

I would try the 7-day lineup feature to see if that does the trick. In particular, set "Allow use of alternative lineup" and "Allow use of depth chart" to no.
