Having issues with importing historical players

Greetings, all. I just purchased OOTP for the first time yesterday. I am trying to set up my league in a very particular way, and have been combing the forums and manual for guidance, but am finding myself at a dead end. Hopefully someone here can walk me through the issue.

I am trying to create a league starting in 1871 that uses historical players, but rather than only eight teams (which I note that I cannot change if I set it up as a historical league) I am trying to set it up with 32 teams. I have tried to set up the league with the "Automatically import real historical rookies" option turned on, but when I start the game and look at the draft pool, there are no real players in it, only fictional ones. It appears that the only other way to import these players is to do so one at a time in the draft pool screen, which would be very time consuming. Is there some option I am missing?

If I understand your question here is what I think may work... There won't be enough players in 1871 to fill out 32 teams though... I don't know what you intend to do with that if you don't want any fictional players???

1.Start a new Historical league in 1871
2.Go through the setup and start the new game
3.Go to League Options, League Setup, Functions
From this screen on the left column you can schedule a fantasy draft and this will release all players and the draft will occur the next day
4. From the middle column you can set all teams to be run by you so you can control the picks for every team
5. From the middle column again you can click on edit league structure and from here you can add, delete, move teams around... After you do this you will have to go into Names and Affiliations and change the team, city etc here for any new teams you added in the edit league structure function... Be sure if you make any changes here to click the Generate schedule after you complete adding, deleting or moving teams around...
6. Under Rules if you check to have an Amateur Draft then Historical Rookies will be in the draft pool and not assigned to their real teams... If you don't have a amateur draft then rookies will be assigned to their real team or to the free agents list according to history...
7. Under the League Setup tab be sure to go through all of the different areas ie. (Functions Names & Affiliations, Rules, etc.) read each carefully to be sure the game is setup how you want it to be...

Yes, I intend to have fictional players fill out the rest of the league, but first and foremost I want to make sure I have all the real 1871 players available for my opening draft. Does that make a difference in what I need to do?

I think once you have edited the league structure and re-generate the schedule, then hold your draft with the historical players that are available and complete the draft... Then you can go to League Options,League Setup and in the middle column you can click to fill the teams with fictional players... I think this will work... No guarantees though...

You want to edit the league structure and add your new teams and re-generate the schedule before you hold the inaugural draft ...
