3 for 3..

Wasn't sure if this one belonged here. Long time Strat player transitioning over to OOTP. First version was 13. I've joined 3 online leagues (with real players) and each for various reasons folded in the first year. I want to play OOTP exclusively but it is a little frustrating. I take a look at the openings almost daily and I see that most of the openings are for ficitional leagues.

I don't like playing solo and would rather play in an online league. Should I temper my expectations and understand that it's easier to recruit for fictional leagues rather than real/historical type leagues? Also, there doesn't seem to be many be historical leagues out there? Perhaps, I should do better and get in some due diligence before joining?

Well, when you think about it all leagues become fictional eventually, or at least the players do. I understand your desire for real players though, a lot of people like that.

I'd say you're on the right track looking for historical, especially if you can get in a slow paced league that's quite a few years back and uses real players. This would keep real players coming into the league for quite some time.

You're also right about few historical online leagues. They are out there though, you just have to look harder. Try the online league directory (should be a link in the online league forum). A lot of the leagues in it are dead I think (not sure) but it may help some. Also search the forums.

The historical forum has some dedicated historical players who might point you in the right direction too.

G/L, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for with a little persistence.

Thank you. One thing I have failed to do is when I find a historical league that looks good - I haven't put myself on the waiting list. I'll be doing that going forward.

I used to play a lot of historical, for many years. Around ver 9 I started getting more into fictional. I still play historical, but use fictional players, teams, rules, etc. It's fun creating a baseball world that may seem off the wall irl, but is perfectly normal in OOTP just because it's fun to do things differently sometimes.

Fictional players are much better suited to my style of play, it's the allure of the unknown that I enjoy.
