Re-negotiate contracts

Basically if we have tight payroll space, we need more, and the player is interested, I would love to be able to re-negotiate a contract with a certain player to be able to relieve some space.

Has that ever happened in the post reserve clause era of baseball?

I didn't realize you couldn't do this in MLB but I figured you could do it like any other sports. Ah well. Guess I better manage my money better.

It's certainly an option worth asking for in the game. Not everyone plays the default MLB rules. I'm not sure how the player algorithm would have to be tweaked.

Yeah it happened pretty recently. But they usually only happen when a player has received a new contract via arbitration then signs a new deal weeks later which voids his arbitration contract and has a lower first year value than the arbitration contract.

Re-negotiate contracts

Its really only seen when there is some benefit for the player. Ie more money but maybe over a longer period to reduce the yearly salary impact

No players went to arbitration this year 133 contracts 0 arbitration hearings, so I don't know how you could say it happened recently.

If it did happen, I'd expect it to be big news.

I guess I meant within the past few years, since baseball has a deep history. . .
