Ugh, it's all in my head!

Ever have something stick in your head until it makes it impossible for you to enjoy something. That's how it is for me with the MLB Quickstart. I simply can't make myself play it due to what I perceive as too many players having multiple home run games. After about the 3rd day in a row in which I have at least 2 of the stars of the day with 2 home run games I shut it down and move on. Been this way for several versions now. With 13 I even tried playing a MAL, but had the same issue.

I know what you mean...I feel like there is too much offense in the MLB Quickstart on default settings.

I can understand the perceived nature of that. But in real life, I had Bryce Harper, Will Middlebrooks and Chris Davis on my fantasy baseball team in the first week of the season and Chris Davis hit multiple homeruns and Bryce Harper did it as well at least once. Middlebrooks had a 3 hr game. I think it happens more often than people think.

Oops. Forgot. Michael Morse also did. I had a good week in fantasy baseball

I need to scrub my brain out and start over. Do y'all experience stuff like this? Something that sticks in your head and bugs you to no end, even if it's downright silly.

It would worry me more if those hitters don't experience a cold streak or cooling off period during the season. I won't name names as I don't want to jinx my team, but this season is a perfect example of multiple HR games throughout the league.

I'm not saying they don't occur, what I'm saying is it's not something that happens daily. Chris Davis hit home runs in several games in a row not 2 in a single game. Baltimore has yet to play in a game in which a player for them or against them hit more than 1 home run. Morse did it one time. No other Mariner has done so. Chris Carter of the Astros did it against them. I also checked the Tigers. Prince Fielder has a 2 homer game. That's it for Detroit. They have yet to have a player from an opposing team hit 2 or more against them. 3 teams and their opponents, 24 games into the season. 3 players with 2 home run games. That hardly adds up to the daily OOTP 2 or 3 stars of the game all with 2 home run games. And that's just the stars of the game. At the end of the season the number come out right, but boy does it bug me.

I did some research on the 2012 season. In real life, 2430 games were played during the season. If my calculations are correct, there were 243 instances of a player hitting 2 or more HRs in a single game. That's exactly 1 out of every 10 games. So, in OOTP, if 10 games are scheduled on a specific date, you should see (on average) one instance of a 2+ HR game. For a full slate of 15 games on the schedule, you're likely to see (on average) 1.5 instances of a 2+ HR game. It might be quite a bit of work, but you could sim a season in OOTP and add up the number of 2+ HR games. How does it compare to real life numbers?

There was a bunch of two-homer games over the weekend too. Edwin Encarnacion, Carlos Beltran, David Ross, and Anthony Rizzo on Friday. Carl Crawford, Russel Martin, and Giancarlo Stanton on Sunday. Brandon Moss last night. Bryce Harper's already had two two-homer games this season. Sometimes homers just come in bunches.

I know what you mean about something getting in your head though, and sometimes you might be on to something! In one season I felt like there weren't very many pitchers throwing complete game shutouts, but I didn't investigate until the end of the season. Turns out my starting pitcher stamina modifiers got messed up somehow, so starters on AI teams were only going about 5-6 innings and relievers were putting up career highs in IP! Now I'm stuck with an anomalous season in my history!

2012 averaged about 40 instances of 2+ HRs per month. So, you seem to be right on pace, David. What do you think?

It sure appears to be the case. Thanks for gathering the info on 2012. Now maybe I can put this matter to rest. It's been bugging me for several versions now. The title of the thread holds true...it's all in my head.

You still wake up sometimes, don't you? You wake up in the dark and hear the hitting of the homers.
