Text-to-Speech
Just wondering if anyone is really using this feature. Ihave tried it out a bit but just can’t wrap my imagination around a chickcalling the game. I hope that they work to improve this so that it is a littlemore realistic

In doesn't work at all for me...
...but having said that, you can't wrap your (obviously limited) imagination around a 'chick' calling the game? That is sad. On multiple levels. |

If you use Windows 8, you can select a male voice. It sounds much better (not because it's male but because Microsoft improved the TTS feature in Windows 8). IMO TTS in Windows 7 is unbearable.

HeyI did not mean to offend anyone...I was really meaning like the auto tunechick...but having said that traditionally males are the ones calling ballgames....I’m not trying to be sexiest or anything I am just stating my opinion.

Just played my first game with this on (Windows 8, male voice). I have to say I plan to leave it on. It's not great, just ok, but I think it shows just how much potential this feature has. I would love graphic animations added to OOTP but if that's not going to happen I would settle for a good voice play-by-play add on. Of course, both graphics and voice together would be heaven.

I agree. Not bad is how I would describe it. Download the modified English.xml file from OOTP Mods. It helps with the ball-strike counts.

I'm used to the squirrely Windows 7 female voice from flying flight simulators. Here, as there, she'll pronounce "wind" (i.e., blowing air) as rhyming with "grind". For all that, I'm already used to her from the flight-sim world, and I like her a bit better here in OOTP.
Glad to hear it's better in Windows 8. |

You're right. I'll have Charlie check on it. Thanks!

I truly enjoy this feature very much. It allows me to pay more attention to the statistics, which is where my obsession lies.
Unfortunately for me, I can not get the female voice to work for some reason. I go into my text to speech options within the ease of access tab (Windows 8) and select 'Microsoft Zira Desktop - English (United States)' and apply it, but once in the game (I have restarted the game numerous times) there is simply no voice to the text. Oddly enough though, when I use the second option, which is 'Microsoft Hazel Desktop - English (Great Britain)' that voice does work, BUT...when speaking in game, the voice sounds nothing like a female British voice, and what does come through is a voice that is more American male, then anything, but the pronunciation of many words just is not good enough to use. So, I have been using the default voice. If anyone knows how to possibly get Microsoft Zira Desktop - English (United States) working, it would be appreciated. =) Other than that, I look forward to the possibilities of this as the years go by, but for now, I am quite content with it, even though it is not perfect. |

I refuse to use this feature until Stephen Hawking is the voice used.

I agree that this feature has great potential, baseball being the perfect radio sport.
During the past couple of days I've been playing around with different voices and also the OOTP TTS text file where you can alter pronunciations (located in the 'misc' folder). Couple of short videos I've made using slightly improved voices from the default MS ones: OOTP TTS IVONA Joey - YouTube OOTP TTS IVONA Eric - YouTube |
