Exiting Without Saving
So, the horrific combination of Real-Time Simulation and a Doubleheader for my team has ruined a day in my historical league, and my attempts to kill OOTP14 via the Task Manager to avoid the autosave have been foiled. It worked once, but not a second time.
I made the horrific mistake of exiting and re-entering OOTP14 in the middle of game 1, which forced the game into RTS mode. I won Game 1. This means that I could no longer enter Game 2 normally, via the play menu, while in RTS mode. In OOTP13, I had thought that "complete RTS" would get me through the first set of games and let me play the 2nd game as per normal, but it did not. It simulated the game, and with the AI making a horrifically stupid starting pitching decision for my team, it was a blowout loss. This enraged me, and not knowing another way to avoid saving the results of the RTS "feature", I killed OOTP from the Task Manager in Windows. It worked, but I had neglected to save following Game 1 (thinking that I wouldn't need to get back in to repair Game 2), so I had to finish re-playing it. Naturally, I lost this time. I attempted to exit via Task Manager again, but this time the Autosave feature kicked in, locking in my Game 1 loss. Now, the game I had originally won in the doubleheader has turned into a loss, and I am now playing Game 2, which RTS originally ****ed me out of controlling when I tried to get out of RTS mode in order to enter the game. Anyway, the only way I can see to try to balance this out, since I clearly don't have an ability to go back an re-play the game that I had originally won, is to win the second game (originally a loss in the "RTS screwed up my attempt to enter the game" scenario). In the event that I have to play and constantly re-play this game, is there a way that I can just disable the autosave upon exiting from the program? I could not find a reference in the manual, and I'd prefer not to Backup/Restore and lose all messages and other history. Any assistance would be appreciated. I am pretty hacked off right now, but I realize it is partially my fault for ever saving in the middle of a manually controlled game. |

Easier way is to make a copy of the league .dat files and set it aside....then load up and play.....if things don't go well, copy the .dat files over to your save game file and try again....repeat ad nauseum.....

As it turns out, killing the program from the Process tab in Task Manager, as opposed to the Programs tab did the trick. I was concerned about corrupting my league file, but OOTP14 appeared to handle it without a hitch. That's a credit to the stability of the program (reported crashing issues elsewhere aside) that it can handle non-standard aborts like that and fire right back up without an issue. That said, your way is way, WAY better than mine. I may need to do that before every doubleheader in the future. |
