The "Under-the-Hood" Features in OOTP 14
Hi, all --
Although I pre-ordered the latest release, I have not had time to d-load and play it yet. Sadly, life sometimes makes gaming difficult . . . ![]() Anyway, amidst all the usual threads asking how to do something or reporting some perceived bug, I haven't yet seen much discussion of all the under-the-hood recoding that Markus promised for OOTP 14, for example in terms of player development, scouting, and in-game a.i. Have y'all played enough to see where things have changed in this respect? I did see a thread from Old Fat Guy where he reported that the ability to force a.i. teams to carry a stipulated number of relievers has greatly improved the pitching of a.i.-controlled teams, but I wonder what other things have come to light. Just curious. I hope to finally have time to enjoy the game myself in a couple of weeks. |

A non sequitur to the original intent of this thread, perhaps, but I don't recall the ability to click the score in the team schedule and get the associated box score before, correct? Cool!

Yeah, been there a couple of versions, to the best of my recollection, but it is handy.

Hyperlink to the box score from the schedule screen is not new.

Well, back to the OP.....I worked hard personally to help get player creation better than before and I think it is.....you should see a lot fewer players in version 14 that just could not exist in real life.....it's still not perfect, by any means, but much better than before.....for instance, there are now relationships established between stats and ratings that did not exist before or at least were not modeled as they should be and are now more in line with what you find in real life players.....
And there were two specific bonehead plays OOTP managers were fond of doing that have been eliminated from their repertoire.....players stealing with two outs and the pitcher at the plate.....and batters bunting (including pitchers) with a runner on second only and one out.... Wilbur Duggleby's 2018 stat line is approx 600 AB's 275 Hits .458 75 HR 225 RBI 67 2B 13 3B 56 SB. Are you saying I would not get that result now? (This was done on Hardball 2) Testing him on 11,12 & 13 I have come close to these #'s. Glad to see the other things gone. |
