Computer not pinch hitting for starter

I have been replaying 1980's seasons over the last several months, starting with 1983. I am now in 1988 and have moved my franchise over to OOTP 14. I was hoping to see that the computer understood the simple fact that you pinch hit for your starting pitcher late in games in which you are trailing, especially when he isn't pitching overly well. The computer just doesn't get this. At times I have become so irritated that I've simply taken control of the computer team and sent in a viable pinch hitter myself. This has cost me a few games, but it seems preferable to the sheer idiocy of the computer letting Rick Mahler of the Braves bat in the 8th inning while Trailing 5-2. I don't want to take the time to go and edit computer managers through all the painstaking situations. Is there no way to get the computer to understand basic managerial strategy? I've raised "pinch hit for pitchers" as high as it can go in an effort to alleviate this, but to no avail. Micro League Baseball (the first computer baseball game of this type that I ever played) understood this strategy back in 1985. I don't think it would be that hard to code.

You can set strategy so the AI will do exactly what you tell it to do and it will pinch hit for Mahler in this situation. This game is "coded" to give you maximum control. Take advantage of it by setting your strategy sliders. Leave strategy on default at your own peril.

On the other hand, given the dearth of decent hitters on the Braves bench in 1988, maybe letting Mahler hit was the best choice in the situation.

I'm asking if there is a way to do this without spending 45 minutes moving sliders around for all 11 of the other national league teams.

And he's telling you 'no' while not being an ass about it. You may want to take note.

Note to self: Princess Kenny was really off-putting.
