Using the Facial Hair Mod with OOTP14

If anyone is interested in using my facial hair mod with OOTP14, here's how:

Download the Facial Hair Mod V2. Extract that to a folder somewhere (in your MyDocuments folder or something -- it doesn't really matter). To get the ball cap shadow and the optional sideburns, copy any files named hair_*_*_xxxxxxx.png to the OOTP_Baseball_14/facegen/hair folder. It will want to overwrite some files, allow it.

To get the beards, it's little more tricky. They've made a few new default beards and they have some of the same numbers as the ones I did. Basically, you can take any of the beard_*_*_xxxxxxx.png files numbered HIGHER than 14 (e.g beard_15_1_rattail.png, beard_15_2_rattail.png, ..., beard 16_1_delta.png, beard_16_2_delta.png, etc) and paste them to OOTP_Baseball_14/facegen/facial_hair folder.

If you really want the few that are left, you can simply renumber them (e.g. beard_10_1_hairlip.png becomes beard_91_1_hairlip.png, beard_10_2_hairlip.png becomes beard_91_2_hairlip.png, etc.).

I'll work on changing the naming and rearranging the files into the proper folders over the weekend and have a Facial Hair Mod v2014 over the weekend.

Thank you. Easily one of the best mods for the game.

Hey, Bobble, your OOTP 14 facial hair mod is now available on OOTPMods.com in the Facegen section. Users can scroll to the bottom section for Other Files.

Could you update this thread with a basic background on the mod and instructions for how to install and use it? Then I'll add the thread link to the mod listing.

Thanks for your work on this!

The Facial Hair Mod

Certainly. Thanks for hosting it.

This is from the readme.txt in the zip file:

How to install:
Step 1: Backup your current files in the OOTP Baseball 14/facegen folder. Or at least back up the hair_1_#_short.png files (5 of them) in the facegen/hair folder.

Step 2: Extract the contents of the zip file into your OOTP Baseball 14/facegen folder. It should ask to overwrite some files. Allow it.

Step 3: Start OOTP14 and set the beard frequencies under Game Setup/Player & Picture Options

Facial Hair:
I've created 90 different facial hair styles, each in the 5 hair colors (that's 450 files!). The files are named beard_#_#_(name).png. I've included in this zip file a sample of what each new facial hair looks like in the files, FacialHairMap(whatever).jpg. This zip file contains all the styles from the original version AND the booster pack. The older files have been tweaked to be a little more realistic, less perfectly groomed.

Hair files:
I've created 4 new hair textures for the game, each in the 5 hair colors: elvis (long sideburns), metro (medium length), metro thin (thinner version of metro), and new for version 2, full (longer version of elvis). Each of these new textures includes a shading to represent the shadow the player's hat would cause. I've also included a replacement version of the default hair including this hat shadow. THIS FILE WILL OVEREWRITE YOUR DEFAULT HAIR FILE. I've included a sample of what the new hair (or sideburn) styles would look like in the file, HairMap.jpg, inlcluded in this zip (except for "full" but you get the idea).

The filenames for all the files I've made were left in lower case. This should help you denote them in-game.

I hope you enjoy the mod. Any questions or comments, please post on the OOTP forums.

Here's what the facial hairs look like:

Hi Bobble,

I have been doing some work on generating FaceGen guys without caps. I think the guys wearing suits look goofy with them! Anyway, any ideas or pointers on getting those old sideburns without the shadows or what to do to get the bald look, as in is there a numbering for it or what?

Your work here is stellar, BTW.

Thanks!

If you open up the new hair files in GIMP (or Photoshop or PSP), you should see the extra shadow. You could just erase it.

However, the default hair that you'd see without a cap is not that convincing. You can see this if you run the actual FaceGen program. You'd probably want to have a number of different hair files available. I know they (the FaceGen company -- Singular Inversions) have extra hair files for purchase. Or, you could create your own hair files.

At the end of the day, though, the 3D model is of a bald head. You can't have hair that extends off the head because there's nothing there to "draw" it on. The best you can do is as if you had a Sharpie and were going to draw fake hair on a bald man's head. You're only going to get the illusion of hair and very short hair at that. It's the same problem with creating any longer beards.

I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm at all. I just want you to know what you're getting into.

Hey Bobble, Great work on these. I can't remember for the life of me how setting the beard frequency works. Do the numbers need to add up to 100? Would you care to share what you use for values?

They don't need to add up to anything. The frequency seems to be based on whatever number you input per beard out of 100. So if you put a 1 it will happen rarely. But if you put a 70 it will happen a lot.

Bobble, why don't these come with the game? Have you ever asked to have them be a part of it?

Bobble's the expert, I'd defer to his judgment. My use, however, has shown that it seems to work as a percentage of the whole. For instance, if you use 60 beards, and assign 1 to every one of them, then assigning then putting a 20 on Five o'clock Shadow will make it appear about a third of the time. The settings I use have a vast majority at 1-3, with another 2-3 at 15-20, and the No Beard and Five o'clock at about 150 and 450 respectively, FWIW. For me, it works out pretty well. My world's a bit on on the grubby side.

Bobble,

I understand the limits and I have gotten some interesting results using PAINT.NET and some of your files. I think FM or one of those soccer games uses Facegen and they have some greater variety of hair. I have come accross "mods" that their fans have made. Maybe someday we'll have that too!

Thanks!

They don't need to add up to 100 (thankfully). I think it's helpful to remember that there's roughly 100 different beard styles. It makes the math easier. So, if you put in 2000 for "no beard" and roughly 3 for every beard, then about 300 out of 2300 players will have a beard (which is about 12 percent or so).

I haven't asked. Wouldn't it be the other way around, though? That they'd come to me (with a huge pile of money ) to get them in the game?

Yeah, the huge pile thing's the holdup there. I'm sure it would give you some reward to see the sweat, anxiety, and turmoil I go through each year, making sure those skins allow me to get your mood icons in place. They are my must have.

I've learned, through the years, that the best way to get something I consider to be awesome in the game is to just offer it up. The game shipped with more hat and jersey templates this year because I made them and said, "I'd be cool if we put these in the game." And they did. Do it! Do it now!

If you don't do it I'll claim them as mine and have them added to the game. They will forever be known as Pawn's Facial Hair Mod. I will be immortalized.

But then you will have to remove "Honorable" from your name.

Bobble I love this add on. It is always the 1st add on I transfer to each new version.
How difficult would it be to add some crazy styles to it? namely this one.

I selected my 23 favorite from Bobble's set. I want them all occurring at the same rate (maybe 10 for each). If I wanted 50% of the league to have beards, does a no beard frequency of 50 accomplish that? Or If I want 10% of the league to have beards, I could set a no beard frequency of 90?
