Falling in love with 7-day lineups

I've been playing OOTP since late 2007 and I've almost always been a simmer. I do tend to watch a fair amount of games a year, and one thing that I've always been frustrated at the way the AI puts together my lineup when I've got subs in. The most common error was for some reason putting a catcher with a barely .300 OBP and no speed in the leadoff spot, even while the guy subbing for my leadoff hitter would make a great leadoff hitter too. I always knew about the 7 day lineups but was too lazy to take advantage of it.

I've finally gotten the itch to try and it has been really fun seeing my team play out the season with a lineup that I have chosen every day. I'm able to get my bench players, some of whom are easily good enough to be starters, appropriate time in the lineup in the spot in the lineup that is best for them and the team. Sure, it takes a little bit more work and attention, but it pays off when I'm watching my team play exactly as I prefer. The results are also speaking for themselves, as my team is currently 26-6 and is finally dominating our division rivals, who area loaded because I managed them two years ago.

I've recently started using these, too. It's nice to be able to rotate your players in/out of the lineup to get them rest against the pitchers you want them sitting against. I've also found that managing my rotation this way is a lot more satisfying.

I just wish you could paste in your starting pitchers like you can your batting lineup.

You can control starting pitchers in the 7-day lineups.

I agree. The 7-day lineup function is invaluable to those like myself who sim a day at a time. For whatever reason, the AI is coded to move the No. 7 hitter in the lineup to leadoff when the leadoff guy needs a rest. In many lineups, that No. 7 guy is the catcher, which makes for awful lineups when players are rested.

It's also very useful during spring training when combined with the Bench Player option in the player strategy screen. That way you can make sure the players you need to get a look at get enough ABs or innings in spring training.

Yep just drag and drop. Just be careful not to have the same pitcher in 2 days in a row.

having just started playing around with these myself. What to you experts prefer as far as "clearing a lineup after it has been used" option. So far, I think I like that one better, as it lets me see clearly where I'm at in the 7 days, and when I need to make new lineups.

But maybe I'm just doing it wrong?

I don't sim more than a week without making adjustments so no cleaning/clearing required.

You mention a bench player option, what is this? Is it like force start, but force not to start setting, because I have always wanted that.

While we're on warnings, I'd like to point out that 7-day lineups trump the depth chart lineups.... I joined an online league once and went through about three sims (and had a couple of players injured) because I didn't know to change the settings. There were a bunch of empty spots in the 7 day.

And another warning. The AI itself trumps the depth chart lineups, which is the obvious reason why 7-day lineups must be used.

I got tired of catchers and slow hi K power hitters batting second in a fast lineup.
