Rule 5 Draft
In the Manual for OOTP 13, it says:
-The player has at least three but fewer than six years of professional service time, and the player was age 19 or older when he first signed a contract. -The player is not on the team's secondary roster. Im not really sure on the official rules of the real life Rule 5 draft and I doubt OOTP is mimicking that but according to the manual, I shouldn't be seeing MLB vets being selected in this draft. Most of the players that are being selected are MLB vets and it kind of annoy me when a team pick up a 35-40 year old MLB vet who obviously wasn't good enough to make his team's 40 man roster. So I am asking if this is intentional or a bug? Also is there a way to reduce the rounds of this draft? 10 rounds seem to be too much. -Juke |

You can't reduce it, but it's realistic as is.
The Rule 5 draft almost never lasts more than a few rounds anyway. As soon as one round goes by without a pick, the draft ends. I've had rule 5 drafts end after the 2nd round. Longest I've ever had was 5 rnds. |

Rule 5 Draft

My main gripe is about the vets though. I feel like the AI is handicapping themselves by wasting a 25 man roster spot on a aging vet who wont play let alone progress or be productive. |

I haven't seen this in my small fictional league (8 teams) in 10+ seasons. It's rare for one of the teams to even make a selection, so the draft is usually over after one round.
In real life, players with major league experience are sometimes selected in the Rule 5 draft. It's usually not guys who are in their late-30's, but occasionally a player in his late-20's will be picked. |

Players assigned outright to the minors are also eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 draft if they are not back on a major league club's 40-man roster prior to the draft. (At least, that's the case in real life.)

Rule 5 Draft

I've figured OOTP was going for a basic Rule V since that wasn't mentioned in the manual and it doesn't have the phases. |
