Compatibility with old leagues?

Any news on the likely compatibility issues with older leagues setup in v12?

It has always been possible to convert your league to the next version. If you're still on 12, you'd have to convert to 13, then 14. You can do the conversion from 12 - 13 using the Demo.

On this note, is there anything lost in translation going from one version to another? I have a few weeks off and I'd like to start a new league now instead of waiting for 14, I don't want to miss out on any features though

If u start now and the import it into 13 , any new features would be disabled if it is a extra type feature , if its a core type feature like example a page layout or recoded contracts or stuff like that , that ootp uses in every game then ur imported game would reflect any changes the core features would have of a imported game . Any of the extra type features u would beable to go and enable them if u wish .

Nothing will be lost in translation, however you would miss out on some new features of both 13 and 14. One of the new features of 14 is Recoded Player Creation Algorithms so your players created in 12 would be created with the old algorithms. Whether that is important enough to you to wait is up to you but it was a big enough deal to some to mention it as a new feature. There are probably a few other things between 13 and 14 as well (league structure options, etc.).

It wasn't so much whether it would run, I took that as a given. It was more the new coding/algorithms that are being advertised. From what has been said I think it's probably time to call a halt to ongoing leagues and begin planning the new ones under v14. Thanks for all the comments

He's not going to miss out on the features of 14. Once his league is imported, everything going forward, including new players created, will have the full effects of 14. Nothing is backwards compatible, but the new features always take effect going forward.

Uh oh....so you are saying if want to take advantage of the new player creation feature in V14, hen I will need to start a new league? In other words my version 13 league will not convert to 14 with this feature in tact?

OK, that's what I was looking for. I don't want to start a league and then be stuck with, say, the old player algorithms, or without the new options with how players enter the league. Since I'll probably only get through one season and 80% of the players will be historical, I don't mind the initial 20% wave of fictional players being "old" algorithm players.

I understood it that going forward the league would use the new features and algorithms etc. The game wouldn't take Jim Smith, a fictional player from version 13, and recreate him using 14's model but any players going forward would be created with 14

I guess all I'm saying is that if you start a league in OOTP12, then obviously they can only be created with the OOTP12 algorithms. There are new, more realistic algorithms in OOTP14 that you might want to wait for.

Whenever you start using OOTP14, though, the guys from that point on would be created with the new algorithms. But that means that, if you decided to not wait, the guys you made in OOTP12 might be a little different than the ones you're getting in OOTP14 -- maybe not even recognizably different, who knows. Rest assured, though, that once you convert to OOTP14, your league is using all of OOTP14.

It's never been a problem before, can't see it being one this time. It's not the first time new algorithms have been introduced.

If there are new scheduling options, you create a new schedule in 14. No problem.

Markus has an excellent track record when it comes to league conversions. I trust that trend to continue after more than a decade of creating new versions.
