Ha, awesome. It's good stuff though, and I don't mind setting aside my rivalry with the Sox to follow along and root for the Red Sox in this virtual world. Did I just say that aloud?

The Return Of Ruth

The Return of the BIG BAMBINO

The current play of the Boston Rex Sox has everyone even the BIG BAMBINO scratching his head!

Babe was spotted taking extra batting practice before yesterdays game

And getting some extra work with his arm

And trying to decide if he will Pitch or play LF

The answer will come today vs the Detroit Tigers!

1918 Regular Season Game 28

Another 2-1 meltdown!

Ty Cobb had a 2 out triple in the 8th inning and scored the winning run on a Bobby Veach Single.

The anemic offensive output continued today in yet another2-1 loss. Boston has gone 8 consecutive games without scoring more than 2 runs and have scored on 13 runs in those games. Their only win was a 1-0 victoryover the St Louis. Boston is 1-7 in those games. Sitting at 12-16 they are now 9 games behind the League leading and always Hated Yankees who in this same time frame are 7-1.

It was decided that Ruth would get his feet wet in LF to allow Bullet Bush to finish his turn inthe rotation. With all Pitchers having 7 starts we now begin the new 5 man rotation and it all starts with Ruth Tomorrow against Rudy Kallio (2-4,2.41era).

C Ernie Krueger is mired in a 2-34 slump which has dropped his average from .318 to .233. Harry Hooper is in a 2-22 slump and George Whitman is has only 1 hit in his last 27 AB…That’s how you create a losing streak kids!

RED SOX WIN ONE!

Carl Mays side slung the Sox to Victory with a 3 hit shutout and a 3 run double.

The Boston Bats showed signs of life in the 7-0 game.

Boston is a paltry 4-13 in the Month of May and have never been 100% Healthy this season ,including spring Training as Hack Miller was hurt the 1st game of spring training...we have had at least 1 OF on the DL since this Dynasty began

Harry "Slug" Heilman Does just that!

It’s happening again! With Boston sporting a 2-0 lead going into the 9th Inning andJack Coombs warming in the bullpen it was all but over as far as the Sox Faithful believed. Burliegh Grimes had pitched masterfully and had only givenup 6 hits and 1 walk and was surely on his way to his first victory of the season. But he walked the 1stbatter on 4 pitches and Management made the switch to Coombs who promptly givesup a run scoring double, then a run scoring single THE GAME IS TIED…ohhhhhNoooooooo. Then after a failed sac bunt, Harry Heilman (who usually starts, was called on to pinch hit and promptly hit a 2-2 pitch into the CF Bleachers tocomplete yet another total collapse by your 1918 Boston Red Sox.

Much needed is right. It's hard to really point at what's going wrong either.

I agree with jabez and others - the pictures from that time period are a great touch and I'm enjoying this very much.

Mates ... I have not, ever, have seen as good as a pitcher as Burliegh, off to a record that is not remotely close to how he was performing, as to having the misfortunes of pitching that day, since the season began ... sheesh, I wouldn't know what to do if that was me ... but hey, the season is young ...

1918 Regular Season Game 32

Ruth Homers,Sox Woes Continue!

After an RBI Double in the 4th inning to take a 1-0 lead, Babe Ruth hit his 1stHomer of the year, a solo shot in the 7th inning to give the Sox a2-1 lead ; answering a Cleveland 7th inning run. In the 11thinning Cleveland stranded runners on 1st and 3rd. The RedSox took the tie game into the 12th inning. Then a leadoff triple by Ray Chapman, playing with the Infield Bill Wambsganss grounded out5-3, then the Intentional walk to Tris Speaker to set up a double play with the corners in Starter Dutch Leonard (Still in the game) Walked the Bases Loaded with one out. Infield still IN they get the dribbler back to the mound for the1-2 force out…Then a sigh of relief as the ball was tapped to old reliable at 1B Stuffy McInnis and the 3-4 put out gets the Sox out of a serious jam!

After Pinch Hitting for Leonard with Hack Miller to no Avail the Sox Pull the double switch and leave Miller in at CF and you’ve heard the rest of this story all of the month of May!

Boston Finally “Walks” Away with win!

Ernie Krueger Got the Game Winning RBI

The Red Sox looked like their same old selves trailing 3-1 going into the 8thinning, then Pitcher Joe Bullet Bush led off with a triple and Leadoff hitter Zeb Terry singled him to pull within 1. In the 9th Stuffy McInnis reached 2nd on an error to lead off the inning and scored on a Fred Thomas single to tie the game so off we go for the second consecutive day to Extra Innings. Only this time we decided to break out the Heavy Artillery after pinch hitting for Bullet in the 9th… Out of Left Field walks Babe Ruth to the Mound and he promptly retires the side in order, a very welcome sight. In the Bottom of the 10th Guy Morton walked back out to the mound and proceeded to walk Hooper….then RuthWalked. After a first pitch strike we pulled off a successful double steal, then the Intentional Walk to McInnis to set up the force and with the infield pulled in Ernie Kruger was given the take sign…Ball one……3rd base coach once again ordered Kruger to take the Pitch….BallTwo…the 3rd pitch Morton managed to throw a strike, his last one as Kruger draws the walk and Harry Hooper walks to the plate with the winning run, Ruth gets his first win of the season in relief and is scheduled to pitch tomorrow.

The Walk off win!

Boston trade news

Minor Trade Made

The Pittsburgh Pirates have had 1B Bill Hinchman on the trading block for a couple weeks now so we decided to make an offer. We offered up little used 3B Jack Stansbury and the offer was accepted, this deal was positive from a roster perspective as It gives us a backup 1B who can also play LF/RF albeit not that well. It also give us both a RHB and LHB at that position. Stansbury is better defensively and Hinchman better offensively. I kind of hate to lose Stansbury’s Blue Sacrifice bunt rating as we will miss it in this dead ball era of speed/pitching and fundamentals. This deal adds almost $3,000 to our parole also. I don’t expect either player to see much PT as they have a whopping 32 PA between them this season.

Stansbury's Card

Hinchmans Card

Next up Can the Sox win 2 in a row with Babe Ruth on the Mound?

Ruth Gets second win in 2 days!

The Boston Red Sox have tied their longest winning streak of the year at 2 games, done 3 times now. Who was the winning pitcher in both Games? Babe Ruth! Ruth Pitched a complete game 7 hitter with no earned runs and Zeb Terry had a clutch 2 out single with E Scott on second to Put the Red Sox ahead. Ruth then allowed a 9th inning lead off single and then walked the 2nd batter, after a sac bunt, men were on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and a hush fellover the crowd as the infield moved in. But Bob Groom grounded out 6-3 with a short field the runners stayed put, then on a hopper to first that Stuffy McInnis handled easily ended the game giving Ruth the Victory for the second consecutive day on the mound!

Boston Pitchers Disgusted with Defense
(Or lack there of)

Boston reverted back to their old ways giving up two unearned runs late in the game of a 2-0 Loss. The Sox made 5 errors on the day and both teams were 4 hit by the respective opposing pitchers. But there has never been an error in LF since Ruth’s return. The Sox are 15-20 and 11GB the Yankees who are 19-4 in the Month of May as opposed to the Red Sox who are 6-17 in May.

The Box Score

Today's Games

Up Next a 4 game series Vs. The White Sox

(BTW,If your paying attention you'd notice the Red Sox are losing all these games at Home, they are 2-10 on this home stand )
