We are go for Stats-Only
Yup. I was convinced to try this. And to not cause a total death causing shock to my system, as I am a long long long time OOTP'er and fairly set in my ways, I will not go full bore stats-only just of yet.
I will leave on the other ratings for now.......and I am changing in my well established league of historical fiction. It is the year 1961, I just won the World Series, and I now switch to my Diet Stats-Only form in this off season. This will be the second season in which I will have an amateur draft, it is the first season in which I will have expansion (and an expansion draft), the first year in which the American League plays 162 games.... and OOTP 14 is right around the corner, so it seems like a good of time as any to try this. And I got a pretty well stocked up ball club so it will take a few years of me making horrible stats-only based decisions to destroy this thing. Got some wiggle room there. I am thinking about leaving potential ratings on tho.....at a low fidelity setting like 2-8 or maybe even 1-5 Since having feeder leagues is not gonna happen for me, I dont want to waste time and space simming those leagues for a number of reasons. Doubt I will look at the ratings much...but I was wondering how many of you stat-only guys go the Diet Stats-Only route and leave potentials on or the other stats on. I know one guy I can count on will jump in and say he is hard core full fledged Stats-only Classic all the way. I might get there eventually, but I need to be eased of my ratings for the sake of my health.

Good luck! I've been wanting to take the leap myself, but haven't yet. I'll be curious to see how your transition goes.

Good luck from me. I have no interest in feeder leagues, but I do use real life league totals in the minors. I'll be very interested in your progress.

I think I'm right behind you. I'll keep other stats on and probably the lowest fidelity of potential as well. I do not want the space that feeders take up and I don't want the problems they cause. Most importantly, knowing me, I'd spend the next 6 weeks scurrying for logos and unis.

I've been stats only since version 8. I only keep on other ratings. I don't like feeder leagues so I turn on potential ratings on draft day only and turn them off right after the draft.

Good luck, OP. I've been playing almost-stats-only for a couple of months. I keep other ratings on. It would be ideal if the ratings could be turned on or off individually.

Cras, I checked with Google and was relieved to see that you apparently coined the term "Diet Stats-Only." Yours was the top, really the only, reference to it in all the Google Universe! See below.
Now, that determined, can you explain exactly what you mean by "Diet Stats-Only"? I don't have the game installed right now (between leagues and anticipating 14) or I would take a shot at figuring it out myself. So I don't know:

Anyway, yes I was able to turn overalls off and potentials on. I have potentials set to 2-8. So when I open a player's profile, I only see those ratings, his potential, not what the scout thinks his skill is at this very moment. I have the stars on, set to AI evaluation, which of course I have altered as well to make ratings evaluated at 0 percent. The 'other' ratings allow me to see his fielding skills and his baserunning skills. And bunting I think is in there too. Thinks I find would be while not impossible, just harder to figure out using only stats. Scouting is on for me, set to....either low or normal I will need to check on that. So I can scout a guy and get the written report. I have the potentials still on because I just want something else for drafting, even though in the past draft I did with full ratings on and everything, I tended to focus more on the stats generated for the draft pool and find guys that way, not really paying too much attention to the scouts anyway. Haven't gotten to far into this post transition yet. I haven't tried to pull of a trade yet, I am still stuck in this brain storm mode as I have two players who still seem to have some skill left in the tank but they are really getting up there in age. One guy is like a medical marvel in that he can still play top notch SS at 41 years old...but having this old dude play such an important role on a team I feel should win the World Series...it makes me nervous. So my first try at trading in this new format will be probably dealing him or finding his replacement.

hey cras
wishing you good luck with your change i have also really wanted to do this, and like you not have feeder leagues i have looked around for the right steps to make it happen a step by step guide would be great- never tried as i was always confused what needed to be checked-uncheked in the game settings i think the first one is on the ai options to have the ratings weight to 0 and increase for the stats ratings to make up the 100%. is that the only change that has to happen, or are their other boxes that need to be checked unchecked? the other is using scouts, but if you use a 100% scout rating, would that hinder the stats only choices? thanks for the suggestions again wish you luck as i am sure it will bring new challenges to keeping your franchise as champions... |

Turn all potential ratings off. It gives you way too much useful information.
Judge for yourself, based on stats and scouting, just like a real GM.

Stats-only is about recreating the fog of war that real life GM's operate under. There's no easy answers to look up. You have to man up and decide about every player for yourself. It's really rough. Stats-only, and I mean real, no-ratings stats-only, not some hybrid thing, is the hardest way to play this game and it gives you the nearest thing to a real-life GM experience you can have.

That's not stats-only. If you can see any ratings, it's not stats-only.

Not looking to start a fight but I have to ask why you seem to want everything to be the way you define it? Both Cras and Deja Bru admitted it wasn't true hard core stats only, which is why the "diet stats only" name. So often you say "It's your game play it your way" but that really seems to mean "It's your game play it the way Wolf does" If you had just posted about how you turn everything off and play "true" stats only we would have bowed to your superiority and all would be well. Not good enough though, you have to chastise Deja Bru because he wants to say he's playing stats only in a way that doesn't match your definition. Sometimes you remind me of a little kid stamping their feet and screaming. |

"Stats-only" means what it says: stats, only. Anyone can play any way they want to but if they leave ratings on then by definition it's not stats-only, but some kind of hybrid.
