If VT accepts, they'll be the biggest money-grubbing hypocrites in a vast sea of NCAA money-grubbing hyporcrites.

I'm just releived SU is staying in the Big East for sure, but without Miami and Virginia Tech the Big East will be in BIG trouble for football.

Is the Big East still looking at Louisville to replace Miami? (Wouldn't be a bad basketball move)

Wouldn't be a bad basketball or football move. Louisville has a good football program as well.

VT has wanted in the ACC for years... I think their contract with the Big East even has a clause about an ACC offer - or at least an understanding that they would jump ship if offered the ACC. That is quite different from Miami's "Big East verbal endorsement" that WVU, UConn and company are basing their hapless lawsuit on.

Still, the whole fiasco rings with a familiar Washington air on how politics rule business rule politics. That's how politics work, and how business is done on the commercial market. It's all a load of horse dung, but with the examples that the big boys on Wall Street and Washington are setting - what could one expect?

The end always justifies the means. And if it doesn't - screw it anyway... what's done is done.

I'm just happy that Cuse and BC will still be in the Big East. With them the conference can survive.

Although, as has been stated ad naseum, it will be quite a blow to the football programs of the schools.

Perhaps this will lead to big reforms within the BCS? Let's hope so.

I think the UCONN football program will fill up the void from Miami leaving.

The whole thing stinks... and I'm a big Tech fan. None of this had to happen if the ACC had just left well enough alone or if Miami had turned them down to begin with.

But as much as I hate Tech doing what they're doing (joining up with the traitors) they have been put in a pretty horrible position: either jump to the ACC or go down with the sinking ship that is Big East football. Without Miami the BE will almost certainly lose its automatic BCS slot, and without that the conference is just a glorified CUSA. If the Hokies want to remain a football power they have little choice. With the Big East they're just another Tulane, Louisville, Marshall, etc.

There appears to be some slim hope as to Miami not wanting to go to the ACC because they are 1 team short of 12 - hence they cannot have the conference playoff, hence the money the ACC promised the 'Canes may not be there.

My opinion is that Miami is "just saying that". The ACC will soon raid another conference for the 12th team. Miami knows that - they are just playing close to the vest.

There are going to be some terrible ripples from this - that is sure. CUSA is probably going to lose a team or two football wise - and the A10 may lose a couple basketball teams to the Big East.

UConn does nothing half-arsed, and they played well, considering, in football last year. I expect they will be a much better team, much sooner, that Rutgers or Temple.

It would be interesting if the morons at WVU would swallow their huge, state encompassing pride and pursue Marshall for the Big East. The Herd has been a blast of a team for years, with major NFL contributions that only Miami, in the current Big East, could rival. Unfortunately WVU has self-importance syndrome and a hyped up view of themselves... and Marshall has some serious little-big-man problems. The two natural state rivals cannot even schedule a football game with each other because of ego and petty dog sniff pissing.

Some of the guys at work are saying that maybe CUSA and the Big East will merge if Miami and Tech go to the ACC. Anyone else hearing this? The merged conference would then kick out some of the bottom-feeders to reduce the membership down.

coop: An annual WVU-Marshal game would be cool. Why would WVU not want Marshal in the conference with them?

I see your in Mo'town... I'm surprised that you are not familiar with the "we are bigger than they" attitude of the 'Eers to the Herd. And the Herds return, "Those jackass Mountaineers", attitude. Basically WVU had years of ruling the state as the (subjective) big dog. Now they have to share some press with Marshall. It's hard to find a die hard WVU fan who wants Marshall to do well - and vice versa.

WVU is jealous as hell that Marshall has had three Heisman candidates in the last 5 years and WVU had Major Harris - 15 years ago. Marshall had had some pretty high profile NFL players (Randy Moss, Orlandis Gary, Troy Brown, Chad Pennington, Byron Leftwich), where WVU had has/had some good players (Jerry Porter, Amos Zereoue, James Jett, John Browning, Jeff Hostetler), but not quite as well known.

The whole thing is silly media coverage and bragging rights run around. There is no real reason why the two teams could not at least play.

(The opinion of a former Mountain State resident)

I believe we haven't heard the last of the saga that is the ACC-Big East- CUSA debacle.

I think things are going to still be up in the air. Lawsuits are still in place, and who knows what will happen there. It is an election year, gentlemen.

They have 3 days to figure it out or the cost of leaving the Big East goes up to $2 million, IIRC. Hey coop, what part of WV are you from?

Been there once or twice, but not for years. I grew up in Wellsburg (northern panhandle), but went to college in Morgantown, and just never left.
