Bracket A - Day 1
#1-Barry Bonds vs. #16 - Randy Bass

Bracket D - Day 1
#6-Ted Kluszewski vs. #11 -Raul Ibanez
The Big Klu slammed 27 home runs to knock off Raul Ibanez, who hit 9 homers. #3-Larry Walker vs. #14-Wes Covington I've thought Larrry Walker could be one to watch in the tourney because of he's been successful almost every time he's played, but he narrowly avoided being upset tonight in defeating Covington 22-21. #7-Derrek Lee vs. #10-Shawn Green In a very close matchup Derrek Lee moves on with a narrow 14-13 win. #2-Ken Griffey, Jr. vs. #15-Dave Parker Griffey moves on to round two after a big 31-17 victory over Dave Parker. |

Bracket E - Day 1
#1-Mark McGwire vs. #16 - Davey Johnson
Mark McGwire had a disappointing round and a big scare, but knocks off Davey Johnson 16-14. #8-Boog Powell vs. #9-Eric Davis Eric Davis has a huge round to knock off Boog Powell 36-19 to set up a second round matchup against Mark McGwire. #5-Todd Helton vs. #12-Ken Phelps The 12th seed Phelps pulls off the big upset to send Todd Helton home 37-21. #4-Clarence Kraft vs. #13-Brady Anderson Brady Anderson has the second big upset in the bracket, knocking off Clarence Kraft 23-13 to advance. (As a side note, I have an un-rational hatred of Brady Anderson, so I'm really rooting for him to be eliminated) |

Well, the fallacy of waiting to run round 1 on day 1 was having to update 32 games, but we're now down to 96 teams after a hectic night of updating. The brackets are up to date here:
OOTP HR Derby Bracket List At least through the first half of round one it paid to be a #2 seed, as all four #2 seeds advanced - the only seed that lucky. There are 3 left for the 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 seeds out of the 4 that played so far, while it's been bad luck to be a 6 seed (or good luck to be an 11) with only 2 of the 4 advancing. The big update of course is A-Rod getting bounced in round one. We'll pick back up tomorrow night where #1 seeds Albert Pujols, Ted Williams, Jim Thome, and Mike Schmidt will see their first action. |

This is freakin awesome but Geez I bet it takes some serious planning and work! Nice stuff! Shame Sixto couldn't pull off the upset...I don't know why But I liked that guy (probably cause I played the whole 84 Phillies season in Statis-Pro baseball Board game)

Some ramblings on after the first round...
The choice of pick for A-Rod is priceless! ... Bonds and Ruth are looking tough with huge first rounds statements. Surprised no one made Bonds a choice to win it all. ... Sad to see Brady Anderson move on and Oscar Gamble go home ... All in all the first round was pretty exiciting and interesting. Thanks for putting it together..

I've always liked Sixto too, maybe just because he has a cool name? I think the 84 Phillies only hope is Mike Schmidt. |

Bracket A - Day 2
#6-Dave Kingman vs. #11 -Chuck Klein
Chuck Klein pulls off the upset to knock the higher ranked Dave Kingman out of the tournament with a narrow 18-17 victory. #3-Reggie Jackson vs. #14-Ralph Kiner Another number 3 seed is eliminated as 14th seeded Ralph Kiner continues his run by knocking off Mr. October 24-23. Looks like Reggie won't be adding Mr. March to his resume though, and we'll see how Dave Winfield does soon. #7-Ron Santo vs. #10-Bob Lennon Ron Santo escapes round one with a 20-17 victory over Bob Lennon. #2-Jim Edmonds vs. #15-Willard Brown Jim Edmonds keeps the successful streak of #2 seeds advancing in the tournament intact, defeating Willard Brown 26-14. |

How the heck did Kiner end up a #14 seed?

To make a long story short he was never one of the guys who never hit 400 home runs in any of the replays, so to even out the numbers I had a play-in round where he finally got in. I took an average of their real life totals and their replay totals, so he didn't get any benefits from the replay, so it was meant to punish him somewhat, although in reality it probably hurt Reggie more.

Bracket E - Day 2
#6-Prince Fielder vs. #11 -Bobby Murcer
It was a narrow victory, but Prince Fielder did what his father couldn't do and defeats Bobby Murcer 18-17 to advance to the next round. #3-Frank Thomas vs. #14-Jason Kubel Frank Thomas hits 20 home runs, while Jason Kubel hits 17 and is eliminated. #7-Alfonso Soriano vs. #10-Willie Aikens Willie Aikens hits 23 home runs to upset Alfonso Soriano by a score of 23-18. #2-Willie McCovey vs. #15-Carlos Beltran It looked like Willie McCovey was headed for certain elimination after hitting 13 home runs, but he avoided being the first #2 seed eliminated when Carlos Beltran put up an even more disappointing total of 12. |

Bracket C - Day 2
#6-Stan Musial vs. #11 -Joe Gordon
Stan Musial took advantage of a disappointing performance to knock off Joe Gordon and advance to the next round by a final score of 21-6. #3-Willie Mays vs. #14-Harold Baines Willie Mays slams 31 home runs to advance to the next round, eliminating the hopes of Harold Baines, who hit 21. #7-Ernie Banks vs. #10-Adrian Gonzalez Ernie Banks advances to round two after defeating Adrian Gonzalez 23-17. #2-Frank Robinson vs. #15-Lee May In a nail biter Frank Robinson squeaks by with a 24-23 victory over Lee May to avoid being the first #2 seed eliminated. Bracket G - Day 2
#6-Eddie Mathews vs. #11-Kevin Mitchell
Kevin Mitchell puts up a big number to eliminate Eddie Mathews by a score of 29-14. #3-Fred McGriff vs. #14-Gus Bell Bracket G has already seen the number one seed fall, and now the third seeded Fred McGriff is eliminated by Gus Bell, who advances after outslugging the Crime Dog 26-16. (This is just one of those perfect examples of how anything can happen. McGriff holds a large lead in power ratings 82-62, but Bell puts up the big number to advance.) #7-Dave Winfield vs. #10-Roger Maris Dave Winfield certainly got a scare from the lower seeded Maris, but narrowly advanced with a 20-19 margin. #2-Mule Suttles vs. #15-Charlie Gilbert This has certainly been an interesting bracket as the #2 seed Mule Suttles puts up a disappointing total of 16. Would he be the first #2 seed eliminated in the tournament? Would bracket G be without the top 3 seeds? Fortunately for Suttles his opponent Charlie Gilbert only hit 8 home runs and he'll advance to the next round for a tough match-up with Dave Winfield. Based on the ratings I'd say the whole bracket was a little fluky, but we'll see what happens in round two. |

Top seeded Albert Pujols comfortably advanced to the next round after defeating Kendry Morales 24-14. #8-Frank Howard vs. #9-Mark Winters Frank Howard wins by 10, sending 9th seeded Matt Winters home after a 26-16 loss. #5-Carlos Delgado vs. #12-Rick Monday Carlos Delgado advances in a tight, high scoring matchup to eliminate Rick Monday 29-26. #4-Ryan Howard vs. #13-Richie Hebner Richie Hebner was no match for Ryan Howard, who slugged 38 home runs against just 16 for Hebner.
