When Do You Sim vs Play-Out?

When do you give up on your current season and start simming to see if the AI does a better job then you do or to sim to the off season? My team was projected to win 87 games and tie for 1st place. Right now I have lost 8 out of my last 10 games and am 7 games under .500 8.5 GB the leader and 5.5 GB the wildcard. I have no patience and get frustrated when my team sucks. On paper I have a good team.

If my season is going well and I'm in contention for the playoffs I'll usually play out at least one or so games a week on my schedule and any key series that come up throughout the season as well. However normally I will usually run a real time sim and if the game is close pla out the last 2 or 3 innings.

If my season is in the toilet and I'm out of it I generally just start simming out day by day so I can get it over with. Usually will wait till I'm sure it's over, the worst it's ever been was as early as August. I still like setting my lineup myself daily though so that way I can try out some young guys and monitor how they do. All about starting to build to next year.

I usually try to play them out at least until a team wins my division. Then I look at where I'm at in the standings and whether I have any players approaching interesting numbers. If not, I throw in the towel.

I have yet to try the real time sim. Think maybe I will do that until the Ammy draft comes around. If my team could stay 100% healthy it would be nice, but still have players underachieving. Gotta figure out who to get rid of between now and July. I have no major FA's.

I play "god-mode" (manage and GM every team) and play out every game for every team.

I've played about 2.5 seasons with OOTP13. For whatever reason, I lose all interest in the game whenever I hit the simulate button.

Actually, I'm a hybrid type of player ... by that, I mean, I sim against less than .500 teams and managed against .500+ teams ... this way, the Game moved faster and yet enjoyed the Game with history moving on forward ...

I never sim my own own games. The only time the real-time sim runs is during the play-offs when I am not in them.

I stop playing out my games when (not if) I clinch the division.

I play as a GM so I sim most games but I do try to watch big divisional games or good pitching matchups.

For awhile my team seemed to play better when i started simming. Got within 3.5 of the division lead and 2.5 GB for the WC. Then proceeded to lose 13 straight and finished 13 games under .500. And then to top it all off, Oprah my owner who is supposed to be generous only gives me $8 mil more in my budget which kept me at last in my league at $48 million. I gave my team some extra cash since I was -$1.2 mil. I went from last to 11th but was able to sign the 3rd best SP at 13.5 for 2 years and shore up my weak bench with 3 signings of 500k, 1.2 and 600k for 1 year. I still have $11 mil for FA after I lowered it back down a tad.

I remember playing out entire seasons with my cadaco all-star discs. daunting but rewarding haha. I'm too spoiled with the simulate button and too impatient to see what the future holds to go back to that way though.

Apparently she is trying to raise some more money for you. I hear she is charging DirecTV more for her network.

Well after finally raising my scouting budget from dead last at 1.2 mil to 5 mil which puts me 10th. I now have 600 k left for FA. I don't know how 11 mil went down to 600k but whatever.

It really is amazing the range of playing styles that this game can accommodate. I just sat here a moment to visualize what ajsas is talking about.

Say you have a 30-team league like MLB and the standard schedule calls for 162 games. My math says that amounts to 2,430 games every season.

ajsas is that he or she has played out, if I am understanding correctly, 2,430 games for every season given a setup like the above. That means OVER 6,000 GAMES PLAYED in just this version of OOTPB.

My hat is off to you, sir. Or madam. Person.

I play one (or two with doubleheaders) game(s) per day. Running the Reading Phillies(Triple A Phillies affiliate) and keep an eye on the parent teams games plus tend to watch new expansion team games(especially Erie Steelers).

When its playoff time I pick the best possible matchup and watch that game.

Haha, well, it's a 16 team, 162 game schedule league, so about 3300 games at this point.

When I simulate games I feel no attachment to the league. For example, if I sim and Jimmy Jimerson wins MVP, I think "That's nice". When I play out every game for everyone and Jimmy Jimerson wins MVP I think "Well, good for him, especially since he started the season 0-18 or whatever. And wow, remember that 4 game set against Boston in July? He went 14-18 with 6 dingers and basically announced his nomination for the MVP. Weird how he never did hit well at Chicago, even though the park was practically built for his pull-heavy swing.".

The disadvantage, obviously, is the amount of time. When a 5-tool stud is drafted it really is a matter of months, if not a year, until they break into the bigs.

And it's sir to you.

Yes, sir! I hear you about simming; too much of that and I do lose contact with players and teams, for want of a better word.

My excuse is, when my team is going bad and hope is gone for the season, I might as well get it over with at that point and move on to next year. You don't have that "excuse" because you are playing for all teams, not just one.

Heh. I think I'm beat when I play out all 162 games in a season, if my team is doing really well and has a shot. Now I feel like a big crybaby.

When my beloved Tigers are playing I can get a full day of games in (8) while watching the game.

Also, I work from home full-time so I can play out 2-3 more during lunch breaks.

The first-year draft takes a pretty long time.

For trading, once a game-week I randomly generate two numbers 1-16 and having the corresponding teams trade. I also roll a normal d6; a 1 being a really minor trade and a 6 being a blockbuster.

As a result of all of this, I know all 16 teams like the back of my hand. It's very useful to have knowledge of every team's strengths, weaknesses, and expendable parts.

Playing out every team reminds me too much of my High Heat days. I do play in a good season 95% of my games. In a bad season as little as 25%. I have back storys on most players in my league and the fact that I add real people to my leagues makes my leagues that more special to me.

I've still been letting my manager make the decisions, but I watch the first game of every series and then sim the others... good pace, and you get to see everyone in action fairly frequently.
