Don't forget that OOTP would have to create all the images and save them somewhere. This would really make the game slower and it would cost a lot of RAM and disk space. So I prefer sticking with home & away uniforms for now.

I've got 16GB of RAM and 500GB of free hard drive space. You're not scaring me one bit, Andreas. Bring it.

Does the game have to generate multiple pictures per player? I don't see a particularly compelling reason to have a home and away player pic for all my players. As long as the player pic is updated to reflect the current context when appropriate, then I think the feature is working for me. Maybe a FaceGen option somewhere (on the screen where you specify B&W vs. color) to let the user specify if they care to have different filenames for home/away.

And how much of the 16GB of RAM would OOTP use, being a 32-bit application?

But in that case OOTP would have to generate new pictures almost "daily". If you open the league scores page and sim day after day, or if you sim games a lot, you would always have to wait for OOTP creating new pictures with home or away uniforms...

If it's only a handful of pictures, this seems less intrusive. To me, the only place where home/away pics are REALLY needed is when playing out games. It's nice on the scores page, too. Anyway, I see your point and I don't have superstrong opinions on it, I just think there are ways to reduce the footprint and intelligently choose when to create new images and when to say they're good enough.

It's not MY fault that OOTP doesn't have a 64-bit version.

sunday pictures would be an awesome option to add (not mandatory) especially considering most would only use it for their major leagues. (at least i know i would only want it for that) this would be amazing to have as an option. and you make it sound doable which intrigues me to no end haha.

This feature is going to be incredibly useful to historical players. Thanks for adding it.

What happens when say you are at home and your team wore it's home white on Saturday and you manually change it to the Sunday alt? Will it stay on teh Sunday alt for a home game on Monday? I am guessing yes. Will it go from the Sunday Alt to the road jersey if you are on the road on Monday?

If only home and away, and no alt, are implemented, as is the plan, then I'd have to say you are correct. By manually switching the home to the alt you would be essentially telling the game that the "home" jersey is the alt jersey you manually added.

So for example the files for the St. Louis Cardinals would be st_louis_cardinals.png (logo file), jerseys_st_louis_cardinals.png and caps_st_louis_cardinals.png
Is this critical? What if our files use capitalization? Does OOTP now differentiate between upper and lower-case letters?

I'm not sure I see the value in this. If the hex/color codes have been added to the logo file names, then what would be the point of adding them to the finished cap and jersey files?

I'm assuming it hasn't changed any in this version compared to previous versions. All lower case is the preferred way (which I think has been the case since at least v.7 and the reason Andreas said what he said), but capitalization doesn't caused any issues.

It would be really nice if there were a screen in the game, and a HTML report to go along with it, that kept track of uniform changes over the years.

It's only a problem for all our Linux users because OOTP uses lower-case letters only and on Linux it will not find files which are not 100% lower-case. On Linux, the file system is case-sensitive.

You're right, if we have a logo file with color codes, we do not need the color codes on the jerseys or caps files.
Only if the logo stays the same, but the jerseys changes and the team colors, too? Well probably that never happened.

Gotcha. I did not realize that about Linux. I know some teams like to insert capitals into the middle of their names (IronPigs, BayBears, etc.) and reflecting that in their file names was useful to me in keeping all that straight in my mind. But making it all lower-case is obviously more critical.

Here are my concerns:

- if the logo, jersey and cap files were to all offer conflicting color codes, for whatever reason, then to whom does OOTP 'listen' to first? There's no guarantee that the desired color codes will be followed. If OOTP looks to the logo file for the color codes first, then the color codes might as well just be applied to the logo file and be done with it.

- I fear that applying the color codes to multiple files will only increase the chances of typing errors creeping in. If only applied to the one file, then not only will it help minimize this, but also make it easier to track down the error if/when it happens. (In my case, when it happens. )

In your example, if for whatever reason a team revamped their uniforms and colors but kept the same logo, then you would just create a duplicate of the logo and change the years and color codes accordingly in the file name. At least, that's how I would approach it.

Another reason to allow for switching from home to away jersey, other than in a game, is for the baseball card feature! So when you go to create a baseball card, you can select home or away, that would be awesome. I don't sim down to the game level, I like the god-commish mode more, like simming through the entire history of baseball more than slowly year by year. To me the value of the home-away jersey switch is for baseball cards as I love that feature and just got into making my own custom templates. I really haven't seen a reason to upgrade to OOTP 14 yet but this would be it for me, if there was an easy toggle box when creating baseball cards to select which jersey to show them in...
