Why does my closer keep getting snubbed from All Star Game?

Player Report for #27 Kelly Stevens

My closer leads the league in saves with 27 and has a 0.69 ERA. Last year he had a 0.30 ERA at the all star break with 20+ saves and he got snubbed also. In fact he's never made the AS game despite being an elite closer (2 Fireman awards in 5 seasons).

Is there something that would stop him from being considered for the AS game?

These guys made it over him this year:

Player Report for #21 William 'Jasper' Barlow
Player Report for #11 Raoul Hbert
Player Report for #31 Manny 'Schoolboy' Prez
Player Report for #8 Tynan Tucker

I can't figure it out. Sure looks like an all-star to me.

Because he plays for a Canadian team.....

Seriously, though, I'd say it's his STUFF rating that is holding him back from getting the accolades he deserves.....

Yea there's nothing in his ratings that would make him seem like a HOF caliber closer so its weird that he's even that good. In fact he's been getting ratings hits since last season:

September 28, 2048
Groundball% Decreases from 52 to 50

The answer is, the game does a pretty lousy job of selecting relievers for the all-star game.

There is a logic to how the selections are made. If stats are the only consideration, then I would say that the logic places a heavy emphasis on K rate and that is why he has been snubbed. Not saying this is good, bad, or indifferent, but that is really the only category where each of the AS selections are better than your snubbed player.

I have wondered if there is more to the AS selections, though.

I had Jose Reyes play 24 seasons and retire as the league leader in hits with 3343. He made 2 ASGs. He had 200 hits 4 times. None of those 4 seasons was he an All Star. If a player gets 200 hits in a season, it is impossible for him to have had a "bad" first half....four times....One snubbed season he led the league in hits and runs scored, but no ASG,

So, I got to thinking that maybe Reyes is just a jerk and no one wanted to put him on the squad if they didn't have to. Don't know if OOTP works like this, but it's fun to think about.

I had another player who retired with 3000 hits, but got hit with a 10 game drug suspension in his 4th season and was classified as "disliked" for the rest of his career. After the suspension he hit .329 with 36 HRs 133 RBI OPS 1.042 and no ASG (2012 setting). Next year: .294-37-108...no ASG.

I have no idea if the drug suspension had any bearing on future ASG appearances (if it does, that is soooo cool) or if there is some sort of personality score that is in play for voting/selections.

Since I don't know that these factors are not part of the equation, I am left to consider the possibility that Kelly Stevens is an unlikable prick who brags about his 3 days of "dating" Lindsy Lohan during a stay Passages Malibu and no one wants to spend the AS Break with him....either that, or the K rate is weighted heavily.

I've avoided conundrums like that by manually selecting the All-Star teams. It's a little work to make sure I haven't snubbed anyone but I try to keep it fair.

Not sure what is going on here Qrash.

If you still have commish privileges you could go in and poke around the internal ratings. There maybe something we don't see on the surface that is in his internal stuff.

OR

Wasn't there some injury bug that never "cleared"? Maybe the "voters" think he is injured still and pass him over every year?

Let us know if you find anything.

A little bit off topic, but I noticed something strange in the player profiles:
All of these pitchers have their current ratings for their pitches higher than their potential. Is that normal?

It is a setting actually.

They use 1-10 scale for actual ratings and 1-5 scale for potential.

They do it by design to provide "fog of war" for a players potential.
