Suggestion For News/Newspaper: Today In League History

It would be good to have a feature in the News Stories/Newspaper called Today in League History. An interesting event that occurred on that date in history would be reprinted.

For example:

On this date in 1978 Sam Jones of the Turon Typhoons slugged 4 homers to beat San Alejo 12-8. Jones had five hits and drove in 7 runs.

On this date in 1967 the Ruthlandian All-Stars whipped the Tycobbian All-Stars 7-4 at the Casa de Beisbol in San Alejo. Don Nichols of the Far Mountain Redhawks was voted the game's MVP.

I like the idea, but you'd have to save all the news from forever to get it to work and that would take a big slice of the hard drive, I'd think......

Perhaps the game could save the most worthy news stories to a different file and could be pulled when needed in the future?

I would think this is certainly possible - to have the top stories saved separately. I'm a huge fan of newspaper related additions - STILL hoping for a newspaper printout from the game (Markus?).

Yeah, you'd think with the right parameters the file wouldn't be that big.

Actually, the types of feats that would be in the stories EC suggested are already listed in the league history section. Stuff like:

3 HRs
6+ Hits
15 Ks
Cycles
No-Hitters
Milestones
Hitting Streaks

It would just be a matter of pulling the info from there and fashioning a news story out of it.

I try to delete all the news files and various things after each year, but I'm not real good about remembering to do it when I leave an old version behind. And I have OOTP 9 or 10 through 13 left on the machine, so 4-5 years of games. I play out one year per calendar year, about 40-45 leagues in the universe. So when I went to upgrade hard drives a month ago I found out my OOTP directory had (literally) 1.5 million files.

If I were to keep 20, 30, 40 years of news stories in this universe and have the game scour them for historical articles my computer would actually catch fire and burn with the heat of a billion suns.

I'm not computer-programming savvy, so I didn't know if it would be easy or hard to do.
I can see all news stories can't be saved. That's understandable.

Maybe the milestones and league records could be accessed.
