FHM vs. EHM

So here we can talk about that what things are better in FHM and EHM.

I will list my things tomorrow (clock is here 2:30 am)

But i have to say now that 2D game engine was pretty cool in EHM! So could it also be in FHM in September when the full version will be published ?

FHM is better already, is my opinion. Its finally time poor EHM went for that long sleep for me. He's been a great friend all these years and now he can finally rest and won't have to sim any more

Sebastian already told elsewhere that IF he is ever going to implement any sort of 2D/3D game engine it has to look realistic. I really wouldn't expect it in the first version.

I highly doubt it that we have a working 2D engine in version 1. To get it right it will take a lot of planing and designing and we just have so much to do before we can even think about it. But I agree, the 2D presentation in EHM is really great, I always loved it.

For the FHM vs. EHM thing: I have the highest respect for Riz, his freeware game was my very first textsim game (not counting European Football Manager games, I grew up with them), even before I learned about OOTP. I had a German Online league planed with it and it was so much fun to toy around with it back in the days. I also played SI EHM a lot, great game. I still have it on my Computer and from time to time I start it and play a few weeks. But to be honest, I don't have the time to search for 3rd party stuff to make EHM work with actual rosters and after it got canceled I wanted a new hockey game, so I started the project.

The 2D engine took Riz a long, long time to code, and he had the benefit of some very experienced people at SI to ask for advice. I wouldn't expect something like that to be coming soon, and definitely not by September.

Good to know and hear that!

I guessed that this is certainly a difficult thing to get a working 2D engine.
And you are right that there is many more important things to do first!

Keep up the good!

Anyone remember Wayne Gretzky Hockey for PC or MAC? Wayyyyyyyyy ahead of its time..

Incredibly realistic Design:
  • Each player is rated in 11 skill categories including skating ability, stamina, puck control and aggression.
  • Options include dual game speed, multiple difficulty levels, practice time, adjustable period length and more.
  • Control any player, coach from the bench, or let Wayne coach and watch the action from the stands.
  • Make up teams, create unique players, load and save teams from disk, or use the special teams provided.
  • Display, print or save extensive team and player stats.
  • Overhead, real-time graphics let you experience the brilliant stickwork, the finesse of a passing game, the thrill of a last second save or the crunch of a bone-wrenching body check!

We don't need any game engine for FHM.

I'm not one who's totally against it but i like to see numbers and information thats right, and the more information to work with and build teams and what not the better! the game is for the head coach to play for me, I'm GM I take care of business!

I see it this way...

EHM is a good 31-year-old NHLer that retired six years ago at age 25.

FHM is a blue-chip 16-year-old junior.

EHM is a better player in almost every way, but it's retired and there's nothing left that it can possibly accomplish. FHM, on the other hand, has just been drafted #1 overall in the OHL/WHL/QMJHL, and has it's whole career ahead of it.

Well, you can't really compare EHM 2007 with FHM 2014 Beta at this time.

But I will say that it should be obvious that FHM has the potential to surpass it. No doubt in my mind the final product and future installments will be great. Beta is already a good start.

I like the way it is now, it just needs some different colored flags to denote certain events and some flash and a few sounds that I'm sure is eventually coming and planned.

I'd be totally happy with a graphical representation that (Action! PC Hockey) has were players aren't really shown moving, but where they are when a particular action occurred.

Agree with you here. As long as there is a good text dump or way to analyze what happened during a game, I don't need to to be moving...sure it would be cool but not needed IMHO.

If the other team scores, I want to know why...text is fine for that if it's done right.

Okay here is some development ideas... Many things have certainly asked in other topics but I would like to list them here now.

These are not in any order, just what came to mind now.

So,

- In-game text: I'd really like to see what kind of shoot players shoot like writshot, slapshot, backhand and where the shot goes like hit the crossbar. And who is going to sit penalty and what kind of reason (tripping, hooking, interference etc.) And fights what kind of punches players hits and who win and who lose. Hits could be very nice also to see is it clean or dirty hit.

- In-game sounds: Maybe some goal horn could be nice and at the same time back of the opponent's goal could flash light.

- In player card: I would like to see the skill of the wristshot, slapshot, and backhand shot.

- Free agents: Some kind of decent search filter.

- National team games: Have you any information yet ?

But very very thanks for the game it will be very nice!

I will list more things when they comes to my mind.

FHM might be better in the end. For now at least the drafting works in EHM.

I try to stay up to date with all threads but can you give me a quick link to this particular bug so I can fix it with the first update?

Dude, it's a beta. I don't know what you were expecting. There'll be bugs.

For what it's worth, I don't see how it is fair to compare a beta to a complete game in its third version, seeing how many, many things aren't implemented yet.

Yeah that's why I said that it MIGHT BE better IN THE END. It's not better just yet, but gotta say that the players in EHM post some ridiculous stats, even with the so fix. 10+ players with 100+ point season isn't right, lol.

On the other hand there are players who are more interested into the coaching part of the game...
