Fox can’t resist Yankees-Red Sox

Look. I don't do this to rub it in. (Although I do like to stir up a ruckus once in a while. )

I'm providing this information for some of you guys to vent here and now, rather than when it happens this summer. I figure the least I can do is help you guys avoid damaging your equipment by pounding it in frustration.

Deal with it now, and thank me.

Fox can’t resist Yankees-Red Sox

Fox announced its 2013 baseball slate the other day, and just in case you thought the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry is not the attraction it once was . . . think again. The network plans an all-time-high five (5!) Bombers-Bosox tilts (including three in four weeks): June 1, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 7 and Sept. 14. Fox again will offer eight weeks of prime time Saturday games and will be at Citi Field for the All-Star Game on July 16. The Nationals, Red Sox and Reds are scheduled for the maximum nine appearances each, with the Yankees one of five teams with eight. (The Mets have seven.) But the last two Saturdays are “wildcard” dates, so Giants-Yankees on Sept. 21 might be in play.

Give this thread some love/hate too, fellas. For example, would it delight or incite you to know that this Yankees fan ALSO is annoyed by Fox's focus? I'd rather see these games on YES Network, especially in lieu of Fox's 8PM EST (more like 8:20) start on Sunday nights.

Gonna be awesome when the Yankees and Red Sox both suck this year and nobody cares.

I don't mind much. ESPN has an obligation to those that pay them to advertise their product. And ad dollars are driven by viewer ship.
Yankees/Red Sox games consistently get high ratings and therefore should be the games that are shown.

And in this digital age of cable/satellite TV and streaming games you can easily and fairly cheaply watch all 162 of your teams games if you do not live in your teams region or even in the same country!

I think it would take QUITE A FEW SEASONS of that to make any difference to Fox!

When I purchase it, it comes out to 86 cents a game and that is for the premium package.

Thanks, but according to Kobie, my favorite team will not be worth even this little to watch this year.

They will still out draw whatever team he supports.

And the team I support too The Yankees draw better for a Tuesday afternoon game in May than my Braves do for game 5 of the playoffs

I've got MLB.TV so I can watch every rivalry game every day. I'm not forced to jump on the Red Sox/Yankees bandwagon.

Josh, let me ask you a quick question about MLB.TV. I have what I think is a decent Internet connection; download speed of about 25MB/s (tested here: Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test). Question is this: How is the picture quality? I cannot stand herky-jerky streaming video.

At that speed, you'd be fine.

You should be fine. They usually have a free game every day in the spring so you can test it if you want.

EDIT: CD beat me to it.

Weird that the Red Sox open the season on a weekday at New York. Fox and ESPN could have milked those games over a weekend.

It's going too be hard for ESPN to break away from their Lakers 24/7 coverage once the Yankees start playing for real.

I agree. The A's are on CSN Bay Area over 100 games this year, why would I ever choose to watch baseball on ESPN? I can't even think of a matchup that I'd rather watch if the A's were on opposite them.

Yeah, this is about what I have for bandwidth and it works fine. Good HD quality picture and you can choose which team broadcast you want to hear during the game, which is good if you don't like the home team broadcasters. You can also add MiLB.TV to watch minor league games.

I have never seen as much airtime devoted to a team fighting for the 8th playoff spot.
