Preordered.

I felt a bit of surprised about the new scouting/player generation engine, but... I'm still waiting for WBC-featuring in OOTP 14. If WBC weren't viable due to licensing concerns, I'm toying with the fictional customizable national team tourneys.

It's my birthday tomorrow, any chance of screenshots as a present?

Quick you need to add screenshots of OOTP14, otherwise who knows what screenshots you'll be getting.

System Requirements????

I'm new to OOTP overall...and sports sims as well. Are the system requirements the same from OOTP 13? I only ask this because I have an older Mac. I originally was going to purchase OOTP 13 and FM12 but my graphics card is not supported by FM12/13 so perhaps I will preorder OOTP 14.

I don't see it being any different than v12 as far as specs go. There are no intensive graphics either, so you should be good.

Back in November I made a few suggestions for minor tweaks to the random debut feature, have you looked into these?

Thanks Markus,

I hope you're doing well.

I just pre-ordered, and though I'd like to think it's because I wanted a chance to win one of the prizes, I'd be kidding myself because I never win contests. No, the real reason is that I've been gaming most of my life, from RPG's to strategy to consoles to PC. And no game, ever, has gotten as many hours of play as OOTP. I still play it almost every day. It is, for me, like the game I've looked for all my life. It still has some flaws that bug me, but I still play it and love it.

No, I pre-ordered because you've provided me with the game that has given me more hours of fun than any other game ever, and that means it's only right for me to keep purchasing.

Keep on improving it, and I hope you're feeling well and doing well.

Joe

It is true love when you can discuss someone's faults but never want to be without that persons presence in your life.

It's probably too late for this, and it may have been raised before (I'm pretty new), but how difficult would it be to add a setting for gender in the player characteristics, such that you could designate a player as female and the game would say "she" and "her" instead of "he" and "him"? I created Eri Yoshida in my league and she's exceeded expectations and made ML spring training this year--and I wince a bit every time the game says "he gets the strikeout" etc. It would also let people sim the historical women's leagues a la A League of Their Own.

However, this feature would undoubtedly amount to a monumental programming task for Markus. He'd probably have to recode the entire game from the ground up. There are so many different variables to consider in terms of player creation and player eligibility rules (the WBC's eligibility rules are a bit complex, to say the least), not to mention the inclusion of other whacky rules like pitch counts and the "mercy rule". Then, there's the veritable nightmare that scheduling the off-season qualifiers would present.

I'm no programmer, but, in all candor, I don't know how Markus could realistically include the WBC in the game without completely recoding the game.
It wouldn't be ideal, but what if the game had WBC as an entirely separate mode? You could start either with the default opening player list or select the one from an existing saved game, but that would be all that would transfer. When you opened the mode, you'd pick your country and be presented with a pool of all the players who the game recognized as being from that country, from which you could select a roster. From that point on, it could play more or less like a standard game--just with financials, transactions, and scouting turned off and locked. The "regular season" would just be the opening round robin, using the pools as divisions, and then it would go straight into playoff mode. When a champion was crowned, the mode would just end rather than rolling into the next one. It wouldn't be a perfect WBC simulation by any means--the citizenship rules alone are probably unworkable--but it would be something.

National team tournaments, if/when they are implemented, will probably always be restricted to being based on birth nation, I think.

I'd like a designation for "other" as well so the game engine uses "it" instead of he/she. My robot league would then be just perfect!

I'm entirely ignorant of the history, but what's the objection based on? If it wouldn't be feasible based on the way the game is coded, that's enitely understandable, but if it is feasible I don't see why having an "allow female players" option that was by default set to off should bother anybody. Some people would be very happy to see it, some people wouldn't want to see it, and that would presumably satisfy both.

Cool idea, but it's not a hugely popular idea lol.

IStillDream - your suggestion has come up before on a few occasions, and the main reason nothing has been done is simply that it would require a lot of work. I think the prevailing feeling as well is that it wouldn't appeal to enough users to justify the effort.

Fair enough I suppose. Maybe I can find some people to do a mod on our own time.

What will the relationship between scouting and the new international system be? As it stands currently, you scout various nations through expenditure. How will this be handled with the new international free agent/prospect model?

I find that stats-only produces the most realistic AI behaviour at the MLB level, but it certainly wouldn't at the minor league level. In real life, no team judges their minor league prospects solely by statistics. If they did, someone like Ben Rowen with the Rangers would be considered a top prospect, what with his 52/3 K/BB ratio in 57 IP last year. In reality he's a trick submarine pitcher with a 72 mph fastball. And if he was a pitcher in OOTP, you'd know he wasn't a prospect, because, well, his velocity would be 72 mph. But if the AI was just using stats, the AI wouldn't know that, and you'd be able to easily outsmart the AI. That was my point.

And I'm not sure what your "try it!" comment is supposed to mean; you aren't the only person who plays stats-only.
It meant it's clear that you don't. And I think that we disagree about almost everything.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.
