The Blue Jays sent Al Woods down to AAA. He wasn't getting any playing time and when he DID get in, he did not play well. Nelson Hernandez was called up to make his MLB debut.

Bob Bailor was also sent down with Dale Ryan called up to take his spot. With DeCinces struggling, Toronto needs to find some offense out the 3B position..

The Blue Jays had trouble with Mike Torrez, who kept them off the board until Nelson Hernandez hit a two run homer on the ninth, to cap off his MLB debut. It wasn't enough as the Athletics won 3-2.

WP - Mike Torrez (2-4)
Save - Charlie Hough (3)
LP - Mike Parrott (2-2)

Record - 10-14

The Blue Jays fell to the Mariners 4-2. They just couldn't get their hitting together despite a fairly lacklustre performance for the Mariner starter.

WP - Mike Bruhert (4-2)
LP - Mark Foster (3-2)

Record - 10-15

Toronto got one back, beating the Mariners 4-3. Fergie Jenkins pitched all 9, giving up 5 hits while striking out 5 and walking no one.

Doug DeCinces left the game after hurting himself running the basepaths. We wait for diagnosis. (It is possible that a nagging injury is what has given him such a poor start this year.)

WP - Fergie Jenkins (4-2)
LP - Jim Lonborg (1-4)

Record - 11-15

Another game, another costly loss for Toronto. They fell to the Mariners 6-2, but the bigger loss may have been rookie CF Matt Robinson who strained his obliques while running the bases and is expected to miss four weeks of action.

WP - Byron McLaughlin (3-3)
LP - Pete Vuckovich (1-3)

Record - 11-16

Matt Robinson was placed on the 15-day DL. Lloyd Robinson (no relation) was called up to the Blue Jays.

The Jays continue to have trouble with Mike Torrez, as the A's won 6-2. The got 10 hits off but just couldn't convert enough of the runners.

Mike Parrott had a very off day.

WP - Mike Torrez (3-4)
Save - Charlie Hough (4)
LP - Mike Parrott (2-3)

Dave Lemanczyk has been struggling so far this year but today he threw a 5 hit shutout against the Athletics, beating them 5-0.

Lloyd Robinson made his debut and slugged a 2-run blast and got a sac fly.

WP - Dave Lemanczyk (1-5)
LP - Bill Lee (0-1)

Fans of good pitching sure got their money's worth today as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Oakland A's 1-0 in FIFTEEN INNINGS!

Mark Foster pitched 9 innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 8. Then Mike Willis pitched 4, only giving up 1 hit. Lastly, Domingo Nieto pitched two hitless frames, striking out 3 and getting the win.

Just as impressive was Oakland's starter who went 11 innings of scoreless baseball!

In the end it was Doug Ault who hit a single with 2 on and 2 out to score Leon Roberts from second to win the game.

WP - Domingo Nieto (1-0)
LP - Bob Lacey (1-1)

Record - 13-17

A 2-out error by Dale Ryan turned a 1 run Seattle inning into a 5 run Seattle inning. The Jays mounted a comeback but still fell, 5-4.

Doug Ault went 2 for 4 with a triple, a homerun and 2 RBI.

WP - Jim Lonborg (2-4)
Save - Stan Thomas (7)
LP - Pete Vuckovich (1-4)

Record - 13-18

The Blue Jays lost a close one, falling 6-5 to the Mariners.

Doug DeCinces, in his first game back after missing a week with a strained hamstring, had to leave the game after a collision on the basepaths. The Jays are waiting for a clear indication of the severity of his injury.

WP - Byron McLaughlin (4-3)
Save - Stan Thomas (8)
LP - Mike Parrott (2-4)

Record - 13-19

No official diagnosis for DeCinces yet but the team decided that they needed to act, so they put him on the DL.

The DL shows him as being out for the next 33 months.

Holy crap. Is that for real?

Anyway, they called up Arlen Turner to take his place on the roster.

WP - Jim Hughes (3-2)
Save - Eddie Solomon (3)
LP - Domingo Nieto (1-1)

That seems like an awfully long time, wouldn't it be a career-ender? Let's hope not.

Also, I see you sent Bailor down... for some reason his baseball card was always one of my favorites. Is he poorly rated in the game? I've been surprised in my 1969 season how badly some guys are rated, especially on defense.
