Does anyone know how to turn off programs that are running in the background? I have a somewhat old and slow computer but am able to run OOTP4. I want to not have them startup everytime I turn my computer on. I know there is a setting somewhere to be changed, just not sure. I know I can now turn them off by hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL and ending tasks. Like I said I don't want them being loaded everytime I start my computer. OOTP4 is far and away the best overall game ever. Thanks!

Sounds like you're running Win98 or ME maybe? I'm on Win2k right now so the following may be off a little bit--
Go to start->programs->accessories->system tools->system information. There should be a "tools" item at the top, and something like "system config" in there. It will have a tab listing all programs that are started with Windows. Uncheck each one that you don't want starting automatically. Be aware that programs like anti-virus stuff is in there, make sure you know what you're turning off. |

I'm actually running Win98. When I get home from work I'll try it. I'll let you know if it works.

There is also another option...there is a program called End-It-All. It can be downloadedhere. This program will list all programs that have been started from the Start-Up folder or the registry. You simply protect those programs that you don't want to close...like Systray or Explorer...and the just kill all the rest...very good utility. Good Luck!

In the start-run box type msconfig
This will allow you to check and uncheck any programs you do not want running when you boot up. It's a cool feature. Also by hitting CTL_ALT_DEL keys it brings up the task manager and you can kill programs from running here also. Do not stop systray or exporer in either options or you may not function right.
