Newly Drafted Pitchers Losing "Stuff"

2/5/2008 William Blanc decreases his Stuff from 6 to 1.

3/1/2008 Elroy Brazier decreases his Stuff from 4 to 1.
Bobby Glenn decreases his Stuff from 3 to 0.
Kenneth Miller decreases his Stuff from 3 to 0.

I can list numerous pitchers in a league I'm in that their "stuff" rating was higher before they were drafted and then it dropped. It kinda sucks if the game shows you one thing and you think the player is at a certain level and then after you draft them they are not the same player you drafted. It only happens with pitchers and it's only when they are first drafted that I see this happen. I can count 3-4 players on a team that had this happened each one drafted this year.

Are you using scouts or not?

No we use no scouts. I know you have said in the past that the "average scout" can be different at times but the amount of stuff these players are loosing is as much as 3-4 points total from before they are drafted to when they are on their new team.

I have noticed the same thing about 2/3 of the pitchers that I Draft in the first round turn into 1 star prospects within 3 years of being drafted, I know that there are a lot of busts but in all of the versions i have played you have adecent chance of the guy becoming a solid player. However with my hitting prospects about 1\2 of the guys turn into decent players It might be programmed into the game but I would like to know.

Fred - this is a little different this immediately happens after the player is drafted not after a couple years. The players are drafted with decent stuff ratings and then all of the sudden once they join their team they have very little to no stuff.

Sure wish I had read this post earlier...just made a pick in an online league, and I'm not sure he was the best choice now that his stuff has gone from a 6 to a 2...

Doctor Drew,

In the USBA where we had this happen, the Commissioner simply raised the pitchers in question back to their original levels. Of course, someone would have to keep a copy of the league pre-draft to know what the numbers should be.

As much as I am in favor of such a policy, you'll be surprised to learn that the other owners are just as happy with things the way they are. What a surprise....

That's both surprising and scary.

It isn't as bad as it seems as far as the other owners go. Further along in the draft, it has become clear that EVERY pitcher drafted has lost stuff, on the average of 3 points (1 lost 4, 1 lost 2). So it's been decided to just leave it be. It's a shame, though.
