Exclamation error in OOTP.exe

After updating to version 4.0a, I simmed 1 season to see the diferences. After the resigning the coaching staff, the game continued to free agency. While looking at free agents, there was an error in a .dll file and the game promptly exited. Since I saved the game, I reopened it and it wouldn't advance past the coach resigning screen. after day 5 the game kept adding days. After 18 days of coach signing, I quit the game and was going to try and open the backup file to continue playing. The problem was I then received a error that there was an error in OOTP.exe and the game would not fire up. I had to completely uninstall the program and reinstall it. Again after updating the same thing happened.
Has this happened to anyone else, or is this a isolated thing. I wish I could install the update, but I would rather not have to go through the uninstall/reinstall process many more times.

Thanks in Advance

Do you remember the name of the .DLL that gave
you the error? If you get the error make note of
the .DLL and post the name here. Also run your system file checker and see if you have any corrupted files. Lastly you can search the net and try to find the latest version of the .DLL that you are having a problem with. Just make sure it is the correct version, for the OS you are running..

I am having similar problems, but I just get a message stating OOTP4.exe error, since I have Visual C++ installed, I get a debug option, and not the source line.

Playing with 4.0a. Windows ME. 128MB Ram. PIII 850. 31GB HD Space still Available. DirectX 8.

After simming my first season (with creating a new league from Rolen rosters), I can go through the coaching period, and then advance to the free agency period. After I click "finish day" of day 1/30 of free agency, I get the error message and the game must be closed. After reloading, I am still in the end of the coaching signing period, but it says day 6/5, I can then click finish day, but then I get day 7/5, this can go on and on, and I have gone up to day 70/5.

Game does not allow me to advance to the next period from this point , so I can not get back to free agency period.

Had experience this problem before, so I uninstalled v4, and redownloaded it. Problem continues.

Also occasionally have problems when visiting transactions page in this league (before season 1 is over, and before get the aformentioned crash).

*****

Ok, now experiencing more problems.

I uninstalled the game completely, redownloaded and reinstalled. Create a new league (in challenge mode), selected my team, click on a few players in roster screen just to see if the game error occurs. Go to transactions, get the error message again, and have to close the program. I have done this repeatedly and continue getting the error again and again at this same point.

I go in, turn off my anti-virus software (Mcafee), go back in the game, and continue to see the same problem. Go to graphics setup, toggle full screen mode on, go back into the game, load league, click on any page, and game crashes automatically back to desktop (not even an ootp4.exe error). Disabled full screen mode, keep trying to load the created league, but continue to get the .exe message, forcing me to close program.

Want to play game, me pay money. Please help.

In some cases like this where there is a reinstall and the same problem comes up I think what may be happening is people are reinstalling OOTP4 but using their older problem leagues that may have corrupt files from the original crash. In cases like that the reinstall actually won't be helpful unless you also get rid of the league file that was having the problems. Of course, we want to try to save these careers 1st and the games reset button can often get a league out of these crash loops due to corrupt files.

panther - Try to reset the league as a last resort (league setup --> reset league). That should get the league out of the error loops that were caused by a previous crash (the coach hiring beyond 5 days). Maybe check for system errors too (scan-disk) as any crash can cause OS issues unrelated to the game. The missing DLL: Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed, check microsoft.com for any system updates you need, and if you get a future DLL crash write down the name of the missing DLL as that will often lead to a solution.

Bangholla - Ditto, I'd suggest maybe running automanager 1st (League setup --> run computer MGR on all teams), and try the reset league if that does not work. Before playing OOTP I think it would be wise to always turn off an AV prog like McAffee that monitors changed files as OOTP4 will often write 1000's of small separate files to your hard drive as you run the game and that is gonna equal system lockups. These crashes can cause even more problems as you know, sometimes outside of the game, so running scan-disk would be wise as well. Also of course reboot your PC after any crash.

Good luck to both of you

It not about restoring my league. Every league i start it crashes for the OOTP4.exe error. Everytime i uninstall it i delete everything and then reinstall everything, and everytime i get the same error. I want to get the error fixed because it aint just me that is having this problem, there is alot of people getting the same error so it aint just my computer. There has to be something wrong with one of the flies or something do to with them.

Bangholla: Please post your own error message thread detailing all of your specific issues. I don't believe your problems are the same as panthers and it will be difficult to give you advice in what is becoming a stereo post . For now I'd run scan disk in case you have disk errors (the app is crashing when it's trying to write to your hard drive). Make sure ALL background apps (esp. McAfee and any firewall software) are off except explorer and systray, then try the game again. It does not sound like a graphics problem so no need to mess with that stuff and probably no need for a game reinstall either.

Edit: THIS post indicates the same pattern here Bangholla, we'll have to study this problem further.
