I need help!!!
I'm a long time OOTP player, having started when 6.5 first was released. I have long had an interest in creating a Fictional League whose history mirrors real history. This would include creating a historical league prior to 1901 and deleting all players and replacing them with fictional players. I would also disable import of historical players, so that history would be created with all fictional players moving forward. I would like to replicate the history of the negro leagues and then ultimately integrate with the MLB and create a fictional Jackie Robinson in the 40's. I would like to also begin permitting free agency from hispanic & asian countries in relation to their actual eras.
Most of this seems to be possible within the game and I run into snags with things that seem like they should work, but don't. Primarily it does not seem like I can edit the ethniciies.txt file and nations.txt file and get those changes to show up within the game. I am running OOTP 13 on a Windows 7 machine. Hopefully, one of you has tried this and has some suggestions. Thanks! |

For starters, there is no nations.txt file in OOTP13.

Things got a fair bit more complicated with OOTP 13 when it comes to editing nations, ethnicities, and your baseball world. But, in the long run, the changes are enabling new customizations and related features that were never possible with the old files method.
There is now a world_default.xml file that is the basis for most of the edits you are looking to make. And the standard MLB distribution of ethnicities and names is now hard-coded, though you can turn this off by editing the XML file. And ultimately you can get the results you want, though your project involving the Negro Leagues might require you to create separate nations for your leagues. It wouldn't be simple to set up a separate league that would only have players of African ethnicity when its base country contains other ethnicities. There is much more information available in the mods forum, including a new spreadsheet tool that now allows people to create entirely new baseball worlds in that format and then copy the results into the world_default.xml file. |

Does this assume that I can make edits to the world_default.xml file in the middle of a game (hence 1946) and add negro league players -- or does it only get set when a game is created. That seemed to be my challenge previously. Thanks again. |

I noticed that there is something in the OOTP 13 manual for editing the nations.txt file but nothing about editing the world_default.xml file. I do not see the tutorial to editing the world_default.xml stickied anywhere, which makes this more confusing to me.

OOTP only reads the world_xml file when you create a new game, but you can edit most everything from within the game once it's already going..

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ref-guide.html There's also a link to an excel worksheet there that helps edit it. Last edited by Bigrod; 01-18-2013 at 04:36 PM. |
