I play every game one-pitch, and have won 2 World Series in a row... I've seen some superstar players crash and burn, Justin Verlander just hasn't been the same for me since he tore his rotator cuff, but hey - that's life. I chose Jose Reyes with my 2nd round pick in the inaugural draft, at about $20 mill a year. Now he's regressed to the point after 3 seasons that as a free agent, he's asking 1.3 mill and there's no takers. But you know, this baseball world of mine went on a different tangent from real-life since the beginning -- and that's the randomness of this game that I love.
As for the game crashing, I lost about a month's worth of play due to a crash and now I'm the poster child for backup. I backup my game *every day* and also move the data files and backups to different devices/locations as well. It's a few minutes of extra effort that are well worth it. OOTP certainly isn't perfect, but what is? I love it, and compared to the OOTP 3 that I started on - it's light years ahead

Nobody called you a liar or expressed certainty that you were a troll, and I frankly doubt if you are either. All that I can tell you is what I wrote: that I've been playing out games since 6.5 - and I have played out a trainload of games in 13 - and that I have never seen what you posted that you have seen. Ever. It just makes me wonder how the heck you are seeing it. And I can't help but think that you are likely doing something really wrong. But don't stop posting. All facts are useful.

OPW:
The crashing may very well be related to your system configuration. I have a stable vanilla Windows 7 box with a lot of memory (16GB, I do some high-end engineering stuff with it) and OOTP never crashes on it. I also have a laptop with the same version of Windows, and OOTP does crash on it - rarely, but it has crashed twice now. I suspect that the hardware that we're playing the game may have a lot more effect on the game crashing or not crashng than we think it does.

Look, I play one-pitch as well and it always seems like something isn't going my way and I don't blame the game, just the way the ball bounces. But to summarily dismiss his point, when his point was he had a pitcher get shelled for 3 games in a row or had the opponent come back after scoring 4 runs, is more ignorant than his complaint. That **** happens. The point is his reaction to these plausible things rather than countering with you have never had an opponent come back after you score 4 runs. Ever. |

I think anyone who plays this game on a regular basis has gone through stretches where it seems like the game has a cheat code (for lack of a better term), but we understand that it doesn't mean the game is broken or working incorrectly. |

Can you show me your pitcher stats last season? I've had stud pitchers have off seasons and then come back and win 20 games, I've had hitters who hit .280 one year and the next struggle to hit .240. We all know in baseball, we need data to see what's going on in your universe. |

Sorry. I was telling the truth as best I know it both times, as always.

Not really. Diamond Mind and SOM only do season replays and PureSim perpetually remains unready for prime time.
I like PureSim but it just never steps up. It's always in the dust, gazing off at a speeding OOTP in the far distance.

I have to agree. PureSim has some very nice features, but for me it's just too far behind OOTP. Plus, it plays so darn slow. I bet I can play out 3 or 4 games of OOTP in the time it takes me to play out 1 PureSim game. The short PBP instant is one of the best features Markus ever introduced.

OPW, I hope you return to this game, perhaps in a newer version and/or a different computer setup. I don't doubt your experience and frustration but I can only say that if your experience and frustration were more common to other users, you would be seeing many more "RANT" threads on this board. One final piece of advice: Look for a common theme in your "different PC's" setups that may explain this phenomenon. For example, do you use a certain, less well-known anti-virus program that may not do well with OOTPB? KC, I am relieved that you are not a troll! And I hope you will come back and post more in the future. Yes, I think the solution to your problem is two-fold: 1) Expecting strict adherence of short-term results to reality. This game does not actually know James Shields from a hole in the ground and, although the tendency for him to be good is there, you are 2) Overlooking the randomness and the need for longer-term simulation for results to approach real life. All said in my humble opinion, of course.

I would still like to see a screen shot on last year's pitching stats for your team.
