Professional football player: "Nyah, nyah, we're better than you are!"
Forget the sportsmanship angle. Any old fool talking about sportsmanship these days in a forum like this is going to be a lonely old fool.
But, why would a guy make it harder on his team and himself by acting in this manner? Quote:
![]() And even just on a personal level. Brady is going to be all over this guy the next time they meet. He may not drill him like he wants to, but he is sure as hell going to try his damnedest. Also, if I'm Brady's 6-foot 7-inch 300lb tackle, I'm stomping on Sherman's head if I get a chance. But this is all about Richard Sherman, not his team, and as I tell my friends when we wonder over NFL matters such as this one, most of these guys are not exactly rocket scientists. ![]() Richard Sherman gloats after Seattle Seahawks top 'gimmick' New England Patriots - ESPN Boston

Tom Brady does not have much to prove. He and Peyton were pretty much the only two serious candidates for the best player of the 2000s in the NFL.

Best quarterback certainly. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu, among others, might argue about overall.

Brady talked smack first by telling the Seahawks "see me after the game when we win." I call it fair game. Besides, I never really believed in the whole smack talk = other team plays better. You are only as good as you are.

Never been into "smack talking" but a simple reply from Brady would have been, how many Super Bowls?

Cornerbacks and wider receivers do this kind of thing much more than players of other positions. I think that's partially because they got hit hard much less.

Plus, why would he be worried about future games against NE? It's not like they play them twice a season. |

I agree. Why would a team try 'harder' because of smack talk. Wouldn't they already be trying hard as they could to win? Are there entire teams out there that are like, 'I think I will pack it in this week and play easy'?

I've never been a big trash talker, but I understand it has its place on the football field. That said, Richard Sherman is an ass.

Sherman plays with a chip on his shoulder, just like many pro athletes. He was drafted in the 5th round and as a rookie established himself as one of the best CB's in the NFL. Most of the guys trash talk and Sherman backs it up and gets into their head, just look at Trent Williams punch Sherman after the Redskins game.

White burned him once on the TD, other than that Sherman held him to 4 catches for 29 yards. I would hardly call that repeatedly burned. Plus the Seahawks had no pass rush without Clemons.

Falcons had no business winning that game. You cannot let a team get into FG range with 2 pass plays from their own 25 yard line with around 30 seconds left. You just cannot do that.

Um, have you seen some of the hits wideouts take on a weekly basis?

Motivation is seldom a conscious decision, IMO. It's certainly not as simple as you make it to be.
