Was this humbling? Perhaps. But, I did it MY WAY.

Well, look who the rookies of the year are this season. Two guys that I traded away within the past year. Two guys that I traded away . . .

MY GOD, I TRADED AWAY BOTH ROOKIES OF THE YEAR IN ONE SEASON. TWO. BOTH!

TELL ME THAT YOU HAVE EVER DONE THIS!

And, neither player that I received is still with the team.

But, you know what? Somehow it all worked out and we went from sixth place (7-team division) in May to winning the division!

I feel a song coming on . . .

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried

I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way,
"Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way"

Ehhh - the Mariners do that all the time

(Okay, maybe not two in one season, but I'm still smarting from them trading away Adam Jones for Erik Bedard )

One more time!

Regrets, I've had a few,

Two! Phew . . . to mention . . .

My pleasure, and it may serve to explain a bit, particularly with Alford. This game hates me or the New York Yankees, or both. I struggled against the adversity programmed into the game by Markus and still prevailed!

Seriously, I need to have more patience. I just cannot stand two or more losing seasons in a row, so I went into a WIN NOW! mode. I think Burton is the guy that I am really going to regret letting go. Phew.

But I gotta remember, too, that I recycled the material that I got for these guys, ultimately into some fine starting pitching which I really needed to compete in this division. So it worked out all right after all.

I've done this too a couple times in the past. It's one of the reasons I try to limit the number of trades I make in a calendar year. I now only make one trade a year lol.
Also, it makes it more difficult to turn a team around in one year.

You're the Yankees. You deserve it.

I'm obsessive about trying to do things in reverse. Prospects! Prospects! Prospects! The real challenge is in trying to ride the waiver wire and/or dump the least promising prospects to keep the MLB club in contention until the wave of awesomeness breaks over the roster. Then, it's Total War on the rest of the league.

Yes, but have you ever traded away BOTH rookies of the year, in the SAME year? That's got to be hard to do!

I don't think so lol. However, I've traded away some really good guys and realized after a couple years later I royally screwed up lol.

You (I?) bet it did! Four of my five starters (NYY) made the All-Star team! (I gotta go after my #5 guy with an ultimatum, the sluggard. )
