Looks like there will be an NHL season.
Just waking up on a Sunday morning to hear the news. Looks like a 48 game schedule.
Is this the planned season for FHM? I really don't care for a mini-season. The NBA last season, worked out fine because their season is too long too begin with. |

I hope not! I think I recall somebody asking for an original, full-length schedule of another one of the lockout seasons, but I may be wrong. Anyways, if that is any indication, I hope that we get the full 82, or at the very least, the option of having the full 82. I'd imagine coding in the shortened schedule would also be quite time consuming.

Since we used the "original" schedule up to this point it will be in the game in some way.

I hope that the real NHL doesn't decide too go with a 20 team playoff. Makes the regular season completely meaningless.

Some, including myself, would argue that the real NHL schedule is too long to begin with as well.

I hope the NHL Network(USA) shows HNIC every Saturday night. Unless I can get NHL Center Ice dirt cheap from Directv, this will be the first season in a long time I will do without.

and then some teams will play one or two games a week. Another thing I don't understand about the past NHL schedules, the love for Monday games. I remember back in the 1970s when they played play-off games in arenas w/o air conditioning and the ice would fog up every 5 minutes. Those were fun times. Either way unless the Leafs get Luongo it's a stretch to think they'll make the playoffs, especially with the "leadership" of Phaneuf.
haha classic ballard. I liked the story of when the NHL demanded he put the names on the back of the leafs jerseys, so he put the lettering blue on blue and white on white so no one could actually see it.

My guess is, and what I've heard bandied about on twitter, is that it's much more likely NHL game centre live (the online version of centre ice) will be free. It would be far too hard to do the tv version free, as there are so many service providers in North America. Online would be easy for them to give away.
I'd be shocked if either was free, instead they'll offer discounts, but I can much easier envision the online version being free. Last edited by dmacgreg37; 01-06-2013 at 04:22 PM. |

The biggest question will be to what degree will fans stay away because of the lockout. They certainly didn't stay away after an entire season was cancelled (per game average attendance was actually higher in the year after the lost season than it was in the season before it).
Given that the new CBA is buying at least eight years of labour peace, I tend to think that any fan discontent will be short-lived. |
