Updated Ballpark Factor Calculator
Thanks for the comments, kudos and suggestions guys. i was glad to contribute something to the cause.
i used ZouDave's suggestions and took a look at the doubles rating. i lessened the effect of the power alleys and walls so the double ratings will drop a little. Also, since i was poking around i added a couple of things. 1. Added columns to account how the ball carries to different parts of the park. The columns are labeled carR, carC and carL. So if the wind blows out to right, you would put a positive number in carR. Or in the case of the Astrodome where the ball didn't carry well, you could put a negative in each of the columns. i'm guessing normally you'd want use 10 to -10. But a park like the ones in Denver should probably be go beyond that range. 2. i made an adjustment to Average Ratings. Before really large parks like Forbes Field would have ridiculously low Average Ratings because the park was so big. But the adjustment takes into consideration that with bigger parks has more ground to cover and should increase the Average Rating. Take a look at the before and after. BEFORE:2B 3B RBA RHR LBA LHR Lexus Park 115 113 89 84 89 84 Titans Park 106 109 90 93 91 94 Forbes Field 135 121 71 68 95 80 Rickwood Field 150 161 53 41 91 64 AFTER: Lexus Park 103 113 99 84 99 84 Titans Park 100 109 95 93 95 94 Forbes Field 110 121 91 68 104 80 Rickwood Field 114 161 94 41 111 64 By the way you can open the text file in excel. Just open excel and choose open file and at the bottom where it says "File by type:" choose .txt. Then from there you can save it. Last edited by Dark Horse; 03-28-2003 at 01:16 AM. |

Cool...thanks again...one question...you have a column for foul territory...could you give me some insight in what you would put in this column....
For instance...could you give me a default rating for this column for Large...Average..and Small foul territories...it would be much appreciated... Thanks again... |

No problem HolyCow.
i would give the parks with the largest foul grounds a +5. If you look at a lot of the older/historical parks they would get positive numbers. Then an average park, that's with some foul ground but no a lot, i would give a 0. And the newer parks that try to put the seats as close to the field as possible, i would give negative numbers. The parks with the smallest foul ground would get a -5. Hope that helps. |

Excellent work. I was thinking of doing this myself, but now I don't have to!

Ok, I'll be the dummy and ask...how exactly do you use the calculator? And is it that one page Excel sheet that is in this thread? I'm interested in using this thing, just have no idea as to how. Thanks in advance
