promoted to GM -yikes- what do I do?

After working my way up the minor leagues starting in 1871 and winning the AAA two years in a row, I got promoted to GM of the ML team at the end of 1876.

I've been given lots of responsibilities I didn't have before and I don't really know what to do.

1. The game says I need to hire a new AAA manager. I see the list of potential managers... what criteria do I use to decide who I want, and how do I know what a good offer is? I don't even know what a high or low offer is.

2. I am now in charge of which league level players are at. How do I determine what league a player should be at? The game has a list of players on the Manager home page it says should be demoted. I know that the star-rating is a general evaluation of how good the player is, but I don't really know where to draw the line between one league and the next. I noticed when I was in the minor leagues that the AI GM would sometimes shuffle players around every day, which was kind of a nuisance. Is that a quirk of a computer-controlled GM, or would I be moving players that frequently as well if I'm doing it right?

1. Lower the offer the better. From the available Coaches screen you can sort coaches for each of the categories Pitching, Hitting etc. I always try to find the guy that is legendary for the most categories then work my way down to excellent, good, average, decent (forget which of those 2 is better) If the coach has MGR listed next to his name he is going to ask for more then a BC or even a HC. Don't employ a Scout or DO as a mgr.
2. How many minor leagues do you have? I take it you are playing fictional?
Since it seems that your baseball knowledge is limited, I suggest letting the AI handle Promotions and Lineups for your minor leagues. GM Menu - Manager Options set those 2 to Minor League Managers. In my current league I have it set like that since it is the 1st year of the league and I don't yet know who is good or not unless I constantly look at their ratings.
Typically I leave players at whichever level until I decide if they are over-matched for that level or not. If a guy has decent stats .260 or better I leave him at that level. If he is batting under .260 I tend to demote him. If they struggle at the lowest level I release them, making sure I don't leave my minors too low on players.
