Names file?
Just bought this during the sale and am creating a fictional league set in the 1950s. Problem is, the names that the app uses don't mirror what you would see in the 50s. I'm seeing a lot of Latino and Asian names that are appropriate for a more modern era.
So: --Is there a names files that is modifiable? --How would you install it? --Do I have to do setup all over again? --Is there a '50s era names file available that I could use? Thanks.

It is possible to modify the names files (first_names.txt and names.txt) that the game uses to generate player names, but you need to be careful or you may not get the results you want. Or you might even break the game, forcing you to re-install. Proceed with caution!
There is an online manual for OOTP 13 that explains how to do this. While it's written for OOTP 13, most of the instructions and details apply to iOOTP 2012. Here's the link to the manual. To update the iOOTP files, you'll need iExplorer. This utility will allow you to access the iOOTP 2012 directory on your iPhone or iPad. Follow this link to get the utility. I also recommend that you visit the OOTP 13 Mods forum. In it you will find links to names files that have been created by the community. Many are customized to be era-appropriate. Again, once you start messing with or customizing the default files, it's possible you might break something. BACK EVERYTHING UP FIRST. I suggest you copy your current saved games to your Mac or PC using iExplorer. That way, if you mess something up, you can simply re-install the game, then copy over your saved game. Once you figure out how to do this, it's fairly obvious and even easy. Getting the results you want can take some time, but once you've got it done, you can use it for all of your future games. Thanks very much for the detailed reply, its perfect. I will give it a go.
Now, though, I have a logo question: As I understand iOOTP, a fictional game is created with generic team names, and then the team names can be edited. If I put in custom logos specific to the names I ultimately want to use, how do I get it to use those logos after the game has been created? Put another way, is there a way to specify the teams I want before the game is created? I hope that question makes sense.

So, for example, San Francisco Giants would be "san_francisco_giants.png" Oakland A's = "oakland_a_s.png" St. Louis Cardinals = "st_louis_cardinals.png" And so on. After you create your new save, and re-name all your teams, quit the game, then launch iExplorer. In iExplorer access your new saved game's folder (Game 1.lg or something similar), go to the html/news/images folder, and copy over your logo files into the images folder. You may be prompted asking whether you want to replace image files that are already there. Click Yes for each instance. When you've done this, launch the game. Check the league standings page to see if all the logos are showing. If not, or if you see a game-generated generic logo, you may have mis-named your custom logo file. Note which, if any, teams lack your custom logo, quit the game, and repeat the process above for the teams that still lack the custom logo. |

Forgot to mention regarding the names.txt file (or any other .txt file) that I recommend that you back up the originals and edit copies. That way, if you mess up one of the .txt files, you'll have the original files available to make new duplicates to edit.

OK, one last question. Well, maybe not the last. But last for now

No need to buy the full version--the demo will allow you to copy files from your iphone or ipad.

Big sigh of frustration using iExplorer. I found some names files to use. But when I drag them (or any file for that matter) from Windows Explorer into the database folder on iExplorer, the file never is copied.
Note that I can successfully copy these files to other portions of the iPhone, using iExplorer. But this database folder won't accept them. This happens even when running iExplorer as admin. Is the folder locked?

Make sure that you have quit iOOTP before you attempt to change files in its directory using iExplorer. If the application is running on your iphone/ipad, even in the background, the folder is "locked" and no changes can be made.
Note that quitting an app in iOS requires that you follow these steps: Step 1 Double-click the "Home" button. A list of apps you've opened since the iPad has been turned on appears along the bottom of the screen. Step 2 Touch one of the apps in the list and move your finger to the left to view more apps that are currently running. This is a list of apps running in the background on your iPad. Step 3 Touch and hold the icon of an app in this list you want to completely close. Step 4 Release the app icon when it starts to wiggle and then tap the red "X" button in the upper-left corner of the app to completely close the app. Repeat this process for any other apps in the list you want to completely close. Step 5 Press the "Home" button to lock the rest of the icons in place and close the list of recently used applications. |

Well, thanks once again for the detailed reply. I am certain the app if off, but still no luck.
This is a work-issued phone, with a security code to access, so perhaps that is the issue. Ah, well. Many thanks again.
