Question about minor league affiliates

Some of the MiLB teams are changing affiliations this offseason. (as usual) I am looking to reflect these changes in OOTP. If I do so, what happens to the players on these rosters? Do they stay on the same team? How does this work in the actual world? I would assume the players would have to change teams...is this reflected in OOTP?

In real life, the players stay with the parent organization.

In OOTP, it will depend on how you make the change. I think you have to change the team name/logos/etc for each team, rather than reassigning the minor league team to a different parent organization, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I'd used to change the affiliations. Take control of the team, move the players to another level, change the team and do the same for other teams. When done let AI set the organization

If you simply change the affiliation (in the Names & Affiliations tab in the League Setup) all players on that team will also change organization, which I believe is not you wish.

So, as others said, it is easier and practical to simply change team's Name, City and Logo/Uniform. You might even manually add an entry on the League's Evolution tab on "League History", to register the change you made.

You can, as another user mentioned above, move all players up/down on the organization before changing affiliation, but I find this a dull work, and maybe troublesome due to player's morale/happiness for being sent down.

I would also like to move the coaches and staff along with the team also...is this impossible to do using the method which moves players off the roster?

You would have to re-assign them manually, one by one, using the editor in Commissioner mode. Wouldn't take that long. Just edit which team they're signed on.

Aside from that, I don't know how you could accomplish that.

Go to the staff's profile page, select the "editor" tab on the top right. There, you can edit the staff's contract, including which team he is contracted to. Change that, and voilà.

Yeah, you could. However, I just believe that would be a whole lot of unnecessary work.

For example, if "Richmond" is affiliated to Boston, and "Portland" is affiliated to Seattle, and you want to switch them out, just rename "Richmond" to "Portland", switch their colours to Portland's colours, and vice-versa.

The drawback I see is the history of each franchise, but either way the league history will still show the "old" name in, for example, past champions.

to switch affiliations of a club I always go into commish mode, DFA everyone on the clubs, so the rosters are empty, then swap. And honestly, it never crossed my mind about staff until you brought it up. For the however many years we have had this feature in OOTP, I have only ever worried about the players going over, and never once did it occur to me that the staff should as well......total oops on my part.
