Why are "Shop Player" offers limited to one player...

from the other team? I realize you can go into the Trade block and negotiate a different deal if you want, but I'm just wondering why the feature is set up that way. Why not allow the AI to offer a couple of A ball players instead of a guy off the major league roster?

They aren't limited to one player. I have received many times offers of multiple players when shopping one of mine.

You may have multiple offers to choose from, but each of them consists of only one player. That's been my experience. Also, from the OOTP manual:

Setting player trade statuses and checking out the Trading Block are two ways to begin to work a deal. Another possibility is OOTP's Shop a Player feature. Shopping a player asks all computer-run teams to provide a list of players they would consider trading straight-up for the player you are shopping. You can shop up to three players each day. Shopping a player only results in possible 1-for-1 deals. The AI will not offer multi-player packages in return.

It is always 1 for 1. If I am looking to get rid of someone I find the best deal and take it. If I am looking to trade someone of value I use the offer as a jumping off point.

I know it's always 1-1, but my question is, why? Many trade dumps consist of dumping a major league player for 2-3 A ball players that may or may not ever amount to anything. Just seems to me that it would give this feature more variety and make it more attractive if it wasn't limited to just one player. It's not a dealbreaker for me or anything, really more a curiosity than anything else.

My guess is that it is a result of the size of the company and the capital required to advance the AI. I always assume there is a downside to choosing products from small specialized contractors.

Yes, it's a limitation of the size of the company, but also the shop player tool is I think meant to complement the main trading tool - it's meant to be used to be able to get a quick trading offer on a player to quickly move someone, and also you can use the offers to expand on them for a multiple player trade through the regular trading tool.
