What Do You Control in GM Mode?
One thing I've noticed when I play in GM mode is that I'm punished for things outside my apparent control. I had a four-star player want to be traded because he didn't like his role -- which I didn't assign because I don't know whether I should leave lineups and staffs to the computer when all I do is GM. Needless to say when I shopped him around nobody wanted to offer me anything even close to equivalent to him.
What does the GM do and what doesn't he do? |

There's no best/worst or right/wrong answer to your question. It's a matter of taste. I can only show you how I play (I'm "Yankees GM"). I play fictional solo and I play out my games (although as quickly as possible) so this arrangement suits me. I will let the AI handle only the minor leagues for me.

I agree with Bru, even if he is a Yankee fan.
![]() I'm everything GM Manager Pitching Coach Farm Director. To me this is what immersion means.

I control everything. GM/MGR role. For MLB leagues with full minors I let the AI control promotions/demotions.

I use the exact same settings that Déjà Bru uses (though i have a bad habit of letting guys who'll never make it out of short season A ball languish in my org for too long).

I use the exact same settings as Bru except that I let the manager control the big-league line-ups except for games that I play out. One other difference, I always control promotions from top to bottom.
I tend to only play out sunday games and playoff games. When I am not playing the game out I always use the live simulator on speed 20. It helps me to know all of the players in my league. After about 20-30 games I can even start to identify a back-up on another team just based upon never seeing his name before. Live simulator is also great because you see when a record has been passed or a milestone achieved that sometimes gets missed in the news. Also, you never hear a about a guy who went 8 no-hit innings before giving up a single run in the news. In the live simulator you know exactly whats going on by reading the ticker. Got off track.
