Unhappy problem

Ive had ootp3 since a few days of its release. i use 800x600 resolution, other modes the screen is way to small or blurry. Ive never had any problem till just now.

I go to load the game and the hourglass pops up as if its loading but after 3 or 4 seconds I hear a ding and the game never loads

I normally have full screen disable because of the problems with blurriness. If I enable it now the game will load but be way to blurry to read.

I have 192 meg of ram, I use windows ME, 733 mghz processor Up until just now Ive never had a problem running the game

Any ideas??

Any problems starting up other applications? If so that sounds like a registry problem. If no try a reboot and turn off all background progs (in case of conflicts) before attempting to start the game. If that doesn't do it you'd be nearing the time when a reinstall might be advised.

I have a fix-it app that can check the registery for errors. Should I run that and see what happens?

That would not hurt, but if you have not noticed this problem (app not starting) with any other application then that's probably not the problem.
That is an unusual computer error and the only times I've seen it were there was a registry problem or when there was a problem with another running application that caused a conflict.

I'd say reboot - close all background progs but explorer/systray (via cnt+alt+del) and try starting the game then.

If & only if the problem is still there let us know what happens when you press cnt+alt+del again. Thx & good luck - many other idea's too but hopefully it's something simple.

Ran the registery fixer and it showed alot of problems but it didnt fix the ootp3 one

Also try closing all other progs and not good and with one more clt alt del I got rebooted.

Do you think I should uninstalled ootp3 and re install it? if I do that will my license still be good?

Thanks for all the help!!

Hmm - about the cnt+alt+del reboot - if you press those sets of keys twice in succession it will reboot the computer, but if you press them only once you should get a pop-up window that shows most of the computers running programs and enables you to turn off a background program. It seems to me you should try to do everything you can before reinstalling the game, so if you were unable to turn background programs off with cnt+alt+del maybe try it again, but a little more carefully . To turn off the background programs (except explorer and systray) 1 by 1 you press "cnt+alt+del", then highlight the program you want to turn off and click the "End Task" button. Repeat until only "explorer" and "systray" are displaying.

At that point try starting the game - if it still does not work I would suggest reinstalling it. I have only reinstalled once so I forget the process but use the add/remove programs option. IMPORTANT: I think it would be advisable to unlicense the game before reinstalling - others here can probably confirm that.

BTW - do any other programs also not start?

Definitely unliscence before reinstalling... its simply easier that way.... however if you didn't all is not lost, you can simply contact Via Tech and explain the situation to them and they should be able to reinstate your liscence.
