In other news OOTP is not FM, get over it. Except for his unfortunate brain washed state the review was not bad.

Some of our people might ought to register there and make some insightful comments.

If someone that doesn't know anything about baseball can get wrapped up in OOTP's game play, that is quite a testimony to the product. Baseball fans not familiar with OOTP will take notice of this.

I thought the review was very honest and extremely positive.

If I ever want to do a management sim of something I know nothing about, I will try FBM.

Or wait for "Successful Marriage Manager" 2.0 to be released.

I think they should have had someone who understands the game of baseball as a reviewer.

In other news, General Francisco Franco is still dead.

Tehee, a funny turn of events here.

I actually got into OOTP and baseball thanks to FM. I've been playing FM since version 1 pretty much, so I was getting a wee bit bored of playing it. While looking around on the Sports Interactive (FM's publishers) I discovered they also distributed OOTP. I downloaded a demo copy of OOTP8, played around with it with a large degree of bemusement. No idea what was going on and how to play it, but I stuck with it because the game tickled my interest. I started reading and finding out what all those numbers mean and who those players are. And once I got the hang of the stats (sort of..), once I learned about the great players, the great teams and the rich history of the game I never looked back.

I'm now completely addicted. I spend my mornings scouring the various MLB sites to see how the Orioles are doing, my lunchhour taking advantage of my Fangraphs membership and my evenings playing OOTP13.

So thanks FM! Well, I would if I hadn't uninstalled it last year ...

Before I got OOTP I had no clue of baseball at all. I even thought it was boring. But that was just a side effect of not understanding the game. Now that I know the game I love it.

That review is very disapointing and surprising. If the person was a true baseball fan or really played the game the score would be 20 points higher. Seems like PC Gamer just drew straws and gave the review to a foreign soccer player that could care less about baseball.

Once you understand baseball, it's the only game there is.

I'm pretty sure PCGamer is based in England so a British nerd probably won't know much about an American sport

I am not a Soccer fan at all. But does anyone play Football Manager? Seems to be a popular game.

It says right at the start of the article that it originally appeared in PC Gamer UK.

Stopped reading at the end of the first sentence.

"In the mould of FM"?

Sorry, OOTP is NOT in the mould of FM. This just reeks of "We were here first and any management sim that comes along afterwords is based on our game."

I can't agree completely. I'm from Europe and I love football (or soccer as it is called in the USA). But I can agree that there is much to like about baseball once you understand the game. I can't prove it, but I would say that most europeans have a problem with no obvious game flow. The time between the plays is what makes it boring for most people over here. And therefor there are too many people who are not willing to even try to understand baseball.
