Editing Historical Transactions

Is it still true that there is no way to edit the historical_transactions.odb file?

I want to play with historical transactions, except that I want to choose the transactions for my team.

I realize this will stack the deck a little in my favor. But I'd like to play the Expos from 1969, but without doing stupid things like trading away Ken Singleton, giving up Grady Sizemore, Brandon Phillips and Cliff Lee for two months of Bartolo Colon on a .500 team, etc. But I'd like to keep all other transactions based on real life. I basically want veto power over each real life move.

I guess there is no way to do this?

Thanks for any help.

Yes. All ODB files are uneditable.

I like the idea of being able to control your own team's moves (but let the others proceed as usual), but if you did one move differently, it would really screw with the other teams being able to do that.

Suppose I'm the Expos and I don't trade Randy Johnson to the Mariners. Who, then, do the Mariners trade to Houston in 1998 if they're to act like they actually did?

You could go the other way and force your own team's actual trades (but only the ones that you choose).

Yeah, there would definitely be a 'butterfly effect' with this. That's why being able to edit the entire transaction file would work. You could work those things through yourself before hitting 'run'.

Probably the better approach within the game as it exists would be to just start in 1969 (or whenever you want). Take the real life draft class each year for each franchise. Propose all real trades (or act as commish to push them through) that you want to keep for your team, sign all of the same free agents, etc. But let all of the other teams just do what the game GMs want to do.

If you play in Commissioner Mode, you can edit the transactions. After a trade is made that you didn't want to have happen, go to the page of each player that was involved in the transaction and change them back to their original team. I do it all the time because I don't like many of the trades the AI does because they are unrealistic. (For example, the first place Tigers in my 2012 season trading Fielder for a couple of A-ball prospects.)

At any rate, the transaction will still be posted in the transactions log, but the players are returned to their original team. The nice thing is that if one of those players goes to another team further down the line, it still happens.

I assume this would mess with the real life lineups if used too? Or will the game adjust the lineup if a player from the real life lineup isn't there?

It will totally mess it all up if you try to use real-life lineups too.
