Contract Extensions?
I can see the financials page but can't find a "OFFER EXTENSION" button on any of the player screens.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

Should be under Actions on a given player profile page, or in the menu when you right-click on a player name.

Not seeing it.
Is it possible that a historical league won't have that? They show salaries and everything and the guy I'm looking at shows SIGNED THROUGH: 1952 (free agent) on his Profile page. |

What year are you in? It may not let you do it before the final year of the contract, or if you have real transactions/lineups on it will definitely not let you do an extension.

For example looking at Carl Furillo right now. Salary is $49,000; Signed Through: 1952 (free agent). So he's in the last year of his deal. Pretty sure I selected NO for "real transactions" during league setup; although I can't find that option now in looking for it. |

Found the issue. I had the reserve clause option ticked on. When I turned that off, the Negotiate button appeared.

I wondered about that too. It makes sense. I was around when the Reserve Clause was still in effect, albeit in its twilight years. Essentially, the owners could offer a player whatever they wanted. The player's options were to accept it or "hold out" for more money. Needless to say, only the very best could hold out for more, relying on fans to pressure the owner to loosen the purse strings.
Led by the efforts of Curt Flood, Marvin Miller, and others, the reserve clause was essentially struck down by arbitrator Peter Seitz in 1975, when he ruled that Andy Messersmith and Dave McNally (who had played without contracts for one year) could become free agents. If I'm playing a historical league that starts pre-1975 (i.e. in 1946), does the reserve clause option automatically disappear in 1975/1976? Last edited by Tom Barrister; 08-02-2012 at 01:02 PM. |
